ipod/itunes & 'BAND' field

Firstly apologies if this has been covered before, I searched the forums and checked the FAQs first...

I use mp3tag to get all my music looking nice. I mainly use it so everything looks right on my ipod.

I use the BAND field so that (in theory) on the album list on the ipod it has the album title in bold, with the album artist below.

However sometimes this doesnt work, eg even though ive coded all files to have the correct BAND tag it will sometimes display as either 'Various Artists' or simply the artist of the 1st track. This applies to compilations and mix cds etc.

Am I using the wrong field to tag my files? I also use the ITUNESCOMPILATION field on the above too.

Any help would be awesome.

I know that itunes uses the "BAND" tag to use as "Album Artist". First, I assume you can see the band tag filled in on mp3tag. Second, perhaps you have artistsortorder or albumsortorder tags filled in on some of these tracks and this affects the outcome on itunes. You can see these tags within itunes.
