I see that you asked the question about closing a thread in this discussion:

Replace/Delete Function

two related questions 1 just want to delete the contents of a field, but i see no such Delete function, only Replace ok, so i tried to use Replace, but it does not recognise '*' as a wild card character to replace anything (with null) so answers to both of those issues would be nice i checked previous Posts, but they were mostly for more complex cases

I think that the problem has not been solved for you as you then started a new thread on a very similar topic:

No. This would search for an empty string (which usually does not exist). You have to let go the idea that you have to search for a string and then replace it. The concept is that you if you refer to the complete field, then you simply overwrite it completely with an action of the type "Format value" or Convert>Tag-Tag. You use this method also to add new data to fields that did not exist previously.

in both cases you did not give the feedback whether the problem was solved or not - and the question how to close that thread lets me fear that you intend to leave the thread as unsolved as it is.

Additionally, unsolved threads encourage other users to add their comments with the goal to find a solution. So if you simply abandon a thread without the final statement, then I would say that you wasted the time and effort of these users.
