Anyone who has used music streaming software called Logitech Media Server, Squeezebox Server, Slimserver etc - this now has a new name "Lyrion Music Server". The new name reflects the departure of Logitech involvement, but continuity of the LMS acronym.
The LMS Community going really well through this transition.
There is a wealth of information there, covering issues such as:-
Keeping your LMS setup running even tho the mysqueezebox<dot>com site has now been switched off
Refreshing legacy client devices, such as Squeezebox Radios which may no longer connect to wifi, Thankfully there is upgraded Firmware availble which will make your SB Radio function once again
There are a wealth of options wrt hardware, formfactor etc - based on low cost, low power consumption devices such as Raspberry PIs, but still with excellent audio performance.
I think it's unfortunate and confusing that there are multiple music servers with the LMS acronym. Lightweight Music Server comes to mind.
What makes Lyrion Music Server desirable over any of the other music server software?
@Casual_Tea - you asked a very good question. So I went back to the Lyrion Music Server forums and asked your question there, "What is the Lyrion Music Server's unique selling proposition?".
This response covered most of the issues and features mentioned
I saw a question in another tech forum, asking "what was so special about LMS?" - given that there are many options for music server software (Plex, Jellyfin etc - and even another LMS - Lightweight Music Server).
I am sure there are better answers than - I have a bunch of this quite nice legacy kit, and LMS lets me carry on using it,
I searched the Forums here, and the USP was discussed back in 2010 - so worth asking the question again more than a decade later.
