LMS Logitech Media Server now Lyrion Music Server

Anyone who has used music streaming software called Logitech Media Server, Squeezebox Server, Slimserver etc - this now has a new name "Lyrion Music Server". The new name reflects the departure of Logitech involvement, but continuity of the LMS acronym.

The LMS Community going really well through this transition.

Some URLs have been changed.

  • For LMS Documentation, Downloads etc, go to https://lyrion.org
    • The legacy Wiki site is still there but most key information already migrated to this new location.
  • The discussion forums, for the problems not covered by the regular documentation are at https://forums.slimdevices.com

There is a wealth of information there, covering issues such as:-

  • Keeping your LMS setup running even tho the mysqueezebox<dot>com site has now been switched off
  • Refreshing legacy client devices, such as Squeezebox Radios which may no longer connect to wifi, Thankfully there is upgraded Firmware availble which will make your SB Radio function once again

There are a wealth of options wrt hardware, formfactor etc - based on low cost, low power consumption devices such as Raspberry PIs, but still with excellent audio performance.

Best regards

I think it's unfortunate and confusing that there are multiple music servers with the LMS acronym.
Lightweight Music Server comes to mind.
What makes Lyrion Music Server desirable over any of the other music server software?

@Casual_Tea - you asked a very good question. So I went back to the Lyrion Music Server forums and asked your question there, "What is the Lyrion Music Server's unique selling proposition?".

Full thread: https://forums.slimdevices.com/forum/user-forums/general-discussion/1700798-what-is-the-unique-selling-proposition-of-lyrion-music-server-and-its-ecosystem

This response covered most of the issues and features mentioned
I saw a question in another tech forum, asking "what was so special about LMS?" - given that there are many options for music server software (Plex, Jellyfin etc - and even another LMS - Lightweight Music Server).

I am sure there are better answers than - I have a bunch of this quite nice legacy kit, and LMS lets me carry on using it,

I searched the Forums here, and the USP was discussed back in 2010 - so worth asking the question again more than a decade later.

So, what is the LMS USP - unique selling proposition

  • LMS can enable a whole range of audio & music sources via a single player

This has Subsonic/OpenSubsonic API support and there is a PlugIn to make Subsonic server available in Lyrion

I own 2×Squeezebox Radio & 6×Squeezebox, both are ~15 Years old and work great!

The Touch is the perfect way to integrate older analog HiFi equipment.
It has great sound quality and still sell for ~100€

John Darko made some vids about the touch

And some WIIM devices also support Lyrion!

If you come across a Touch and have a 24/7 NAS or some other platform to run a local Lyrion server -- go for it!

And best of all, you'll soon find new reasons, why you wanna use mp3tag to add some more tags!
