Just out of curiosity, are you saying that you actually do use this offline FreeDB database (Windows Format) with EAC (running on your Win7 32-bit system)?
What version of EAC are you using? I have looked into the latest version 1.6 of EAC and can't seem to figure out how to use a "local database", if it is even still supported. The latest version 1.6 now utilizes GNUDB (online and current) rather than FreedB (no longer available online since June 2020), so there's no reason to use my old Windows format database offline (especially since it is "stale" since June 2020).
Nevertheless, I still am very curious to learn from you if EAC actually still does support offline local database, and if so how do you set up the configuration of EAC to do that? Please provide details, and also what version of EAC you are using.
Yes, that's right; I also have no interest at all in using the latest version of EAC,
because I don't need it.
I use a portable 0.95b3 version with customized lame commands; depending on quality wishes :
Hi,
could you please send me a copy of a most up to date GnuDB (Unix) in old FreeDB (Win) Format?
Is there a chance to update it automatically with latest GnuDB-Version?
I need the database in a single-file in old FreeDB-Format for an old streaming-device and my FreeDB-file is too old to be happy with ;o(...
Thank you in advance,
Marcus
Sorry, there is no way to update this June 2020 FreeDB version of the database with current GNUDB data. To the best of my knowledge there is no ability to download modern current GNUDB database (either complete or monthly updates) as there used to be available with FreeDB when it existed.
Neither is there a way to download the complete current GNUDB data.
So this June 2020 Windows-format database is going to be eternally "stale" at that final date.
For up-to-date data you'll have to use apps that support GNUDB configuration.
You are a legend among men, @DSperber. Thank you for massaging this version together, the smaller filecount really helps keep things tidy.
For the record, I have an up-to-date version of EAC that knows to pull from gnudb, so no worries on that front. However, since GnuDB doesn't actually make the full database available for local download (which seems extremely un-"gnu" to me - maybe it should be renamed "RedhatEnterpriseDB"? ), I appreciate having the peace of mind that comes from a local copy. 404 me once, shame on you; 404 me thousands of times over the past 25 years, I'll download freaking everything.
Anything being freshly ripped after June 2020 should really be on the MusicBrainz or Discogs databases anyway.
@DSperber Could you please send me the link to download the Windows database?
I plan to rip a bunch of CDs in an environment where I won't have Internet access. I see there is still an EAC version 0.95 beta 4 available for download on their official website, which is close to the version which that other user mentioned ("0.95b3"). I'm hoping it is able to run on my machine (a mini PC with Windows 11), and that it can rip usable MP3 (in VBR) and FLAC files, and that it can open this local database file (which is something I've never tried before).
Hello DSperber. It`s imposible to find a freedb database in Windows format. The one you made it is the only one in all the whole web.
Could you please send me a link to download it?
Thank you very much for share it with this community.
