Mouse Horizontal Scroll Wheel is in reverse

Hi!

I have seen some of the other posts about the Horizontal Scroll and I must say it is a very useful feature.
In fact, MP3Tag is, all-in-all, one of the best tools I have come across; great work!
Back to the Mouse Horizontal Scroll Wheel; I have to say that it works, but it is in reverse.
I use it all the time in several other applications (my mouse has horizontal scroll wheel), since Excel to Notepad++, but when I come to MP3Tag I keep scrolling in the opposite direction to the one I intended, and that is extremely annoying.

Please, correct it and make MP3Tag even better.

Thank you!

Paulo Martins

I am not sure if this is a feature and therefore problem of the mouse driver.
I had an exchange with the developer about the horizontal scrolling which only works reliably with my "mouse" if I press the Shift and turn the mouse wheel.
The special feature of my "mouse" (which is a Logitech track ball) of a tiltable mouse wheel for horizontal scrolling works only once per session - which IMHO is too seldom for a versatile feature.
So I use the normal mouse wheel without tilting it and press the Shift key for horizontal scrolling.
Perhaps this is a feasible way for you too.

Also, I fear that this will not be changed as the behaviour was changed with version 3.33.1:

[2026-03-27] NEW: added support for horizontal scrolling via Shift + mouse wheel where applicable.
                   (#70731)
[2026-01-27] CHG: flipped directions when scrolling horizontally in File List via Shift + mouse
                   wheel.
[2026-01-09] NEW: added support for horizontal scrolling in File List via Shift + mouse wheel.

Mine is a Logitech too.
It's the MX Master 3S.
It works properly with other programs.

Just to get this clear: horizontal scrolling works.
You can even see in the changelog that the feature has been adapted according to other user's preferences.
And with that in the background I cannot imagine that the behaviour will be revoked permanently.
If there could be a new feature to toggle the horizontal scroll direction is beyond my influence.

Off-topic for mp3tag, but in the Logi+ software from Logitech, there are options for app-specific settings. Perhaps this can be used to reverse the horizontal scroll direction when focused on mp3tag.

Same mouse. Works exactly as expected in Mp3tag.

Razer Basilisk V3 mouse: horizontal scroll direction is reversed in mp3tag, same as OP.

I'm expecting left-tilt = drag scroll bar left = ctrl-leftarrow => horizontal scroll to display column 1.

I find left-tilt = horizontal scroll to display the right-most column.

mp3tag Versions: 1.35.1 and 3.36-beta.6

I am not sure whether we talk about the same thing. I also have a human interface device which allows to tilt the mouse wheel to trigger a horizontal scroll - if the application supports it.
MP3tag does not really. To use the mouse wheel I have to press Shift while rolling the wheel to get the horizontal scroll. Tilting the mouse wheel does not really work, the only reliable function is the one described here.

Thanks for your reply.
Shift-rollWheel works, thanks.
As suggested by another in this discussion, I investigated configuring my mouse to send the reversed horizontal-scroll signals when using mp3tag. That has worked for my mouse, so now a left-tilt in mp3tag scrolls to the left as in notepad, excel, etc.
It seems there is no consistency to this among mouse devices.
As also suggested in this discussion, an mp3tag option that toggled the direction of horizontal scroll when the mouse wheel is tilted would solve the issue. (eg a checkbox in General Options)
In the meantime, individual workarounds are possible.

In version 3.36 the horizontal scroll wheel is still in reverse.

I'm not talking about Shift+Vertical Scroll Wheel; that works. It even works with just the Vertical Scroll Wheel, just at a different speed.

I'm talking about the Horizontal Scroll Wheel present in mice like:

  • Logitech MX Master 3S and 4;
  • Keychron M6.

There was no suggestion at any point here that the developer was going to do anything for this. I guarantee if it as changed for one, it would generate new reports from others.

Did you not make this recommended change that would work to swap this function for you?
