MP3 Won't play after Tag update (some players)

I am creating MP3 files for my old cassettes and albums. The tape player creates an MP3 file with a minimal ID3 header. The file will play on Windows Media player but will not load into Magix Cleaning Lab and will not play on my car stereo (Kia - 2020). In the car it displays the info from the ID3 tags, displays a progress bar for about 15 seconds and then plays the next track on the USB drive.

Any thoughts / suggestions about what to check or update would be great.

Thank you.
Checked other tag fields, found the following:
The files that do not play in car or load to Magix have:
CODEC MPEG 1 Layer II
MODE Stereo

The files that play in car stereo and can be loaded to MAGIX
CODEC MPEG 1 Layer III
MODE Joint Stereo

Your player probably does not support this format., which is not MP3.

Thank you Poster. I have done some further testing and research and I learned what you have shared. I also learned that I can't "convert" MP2 into MP3. This just means that the clever and convenient CR-381 cassette tape unit that generates "MP3" files actually creates MP2 and isn't useful for what I want to do.

I appreciate your post.

Thanks,

Roger

You could test if your players are more tolerant when you rename the suffix to mp2.

Poster, amazingly simple solution! Changing file suffix to MP2 gives the Magix app the right file type. It reads it and will convert it to an actual MP3 file. It doesn't add any significant steps to my process and it works. The resulting MP3 plays in the car also.
Thank you Again!

However, you should keep in mind that it is never a good idea to convert a piece of music from a lossy format to another that is equally lossy. MP2 and MP3 are both lossy formats, so the quality will definitely be worse in the end.
