It happened again.
Right-clicking on an audio track used to gibe me the MP3Tag option....even yesterday.
Today, it is gone...again.
When I go to enter: cd regsvr32Mp3tagShell.dll
at the command prompt, I am cautioned that I an about to enter a multi line command that could have unintended consequences. Is it same to enter as is, or should I move the second line up?
Actually, the cmd line on the help link is longer....so confusing...
It is 2 seperate lines, each one to be executed individually but in the displayed order
Do I need to restart after entering that command?
isn't it much easier to directly try it than to ask?
It is my experience that it would not..
Just try it exactly like this:
Right-click context menu is missing on Windows 11
Assuming you've already restarted explorer.exe via the right-click context menu in Task Manager (or have rebooted Windows), this is happening sometimes on Windows 11 for reasons which I still trying to find out.
What might help in those cases and when the classic context menu is preferred, is to manually register the shell extension from a command prompt with admin rights:
cd <path to Mp3tag installation>
regsvr32 Mp3tagShell.dll
... @LyricsLover links to the same topic that you already know from this thread:
When viewing MP3 audio book discs and tracks in Windows 11 File Explorer, I used to right-click a disc or tracks in the disc and MP2 Tag would come up in the “Open” drop down box.
Not any more……..
Where di d it go?
What Am I doing wrong?
So: nothing has changed in the meantime. You still would have to execute everything locally.
When I copy and paste that line in a cmd. prompt, I am informed that "System cannot find the file specified."
In the above referenced thread, I stated that it HAD RETURNED. But.................Now it is GONE.
I just do not understand why Mp3tag WAS present, then NOT present, then preset again, now NOT present...
As you do not supply any detailed information, it is not really possible to give you other suggestions.
I miss hints how to reproduce the problem.
A screenshot of the command(s) that you enter would be a start.
You would have to replace the text <path to MP3tag installation> with the real path.
So find out in which location you installed MP3tag, then use that information to fill in the path.
It is installed to: "C:\Program Files\Mp3tag\Mp3tag.exe"
So the command would be:
cd C:\Program Files\Mp3tag
press Enter
end then enter
regsvr32 mp3tagshell.dll
press Enter again.
I think it should be
regsvr32
The error indicates insufficient access rights.
You would have to run the command prompt explicitly with administrator rights.
According to my account, I AM the administrator.....
this has been a couple days of silly failures.. I am not accustomed to that...
As my right click drop down had a program "Edit ID Tags" provided by my CD ripping program, I guess I will just use that.
Still don't know why Mp3tag is playing peek-a-boo with that drop down menu.....
You would still have to execute the command prompt as administrator - which is an extra option to open that program.
This is something that only you can find out locally with a thorough investigation what happened before and what has changed.
I ran as administrator. Entered the 2 command lines.
It said that it had been executed successfully.
I restarted the PC and...................it Is there, just in a lower position than before!
Thank you!
