I have several hundred CD's and downloaded albums stored on my Mac, and I used Mp3Tag to manage the metadata, it worked very well. Now, however, I want to add a new file to the list, but when I open the app it only shows a few CD's, 93 tracks. I am using version 1.8.27, which I believe is the latest, and the Mac is on Sequoia 15.1. The location of the files has not changed since I last used the app.
Can you please try opening the folder with the large collection via ⌘O or File → Open...? It then should list all the files you see in that folder when double-checking its contents via Finder.
Hi thanks for your message. When I access the folder within the app, it lists all 272 subfolders, exactly the same as in Finder, but when I select Open it only uploads 8 folders.
Hi, sorry, I'm quite confused by your question. I can't see an "Open with Mp3tag" menu item anywhere - where is it in Finder? And I don't know what "Finder's context menu" is.
I selected Open from the menu in Mp3tag - the list displayed is the same as when I look it up in Finder. I haven't tried it from any other app.
I've repeated this several times, also selecting all the individual subfolders - every time it just uploads 8 subfolders. If I select a single subfolder not in those 8, it doesn't upload anything. The music playing app I use (Audivarna) has no problem accessing the files.
it already meant that the contents of those subfolders were listed in Mp3tag and that
was a different way of loading the files. I now understand that the 272 subfolders are displayed in the Open... window, but are then not loaded when you confirm your selection.
As @MotleyG pointed out, you can check if the Filter field (1) and the status bar (2) and see if the file list is filtered. If so, you can just clear the filter to make the other files reappear.
There is nothing in the filter. I have now cleared all recent filters, and it still only loads 8 of 272 subfolders. I'll send you a screenshot in the morning.
After that, load the folder "CD Uploads" (not the individual files) via ⌘O and see if the issue persists.
If the issue persists, I’d need more details. BackLog is an option to get a more detailed insight into what might be causing the issue, where you can set the process to Mp3tag and include all events that are not directly created by this binary.
OK, thanks for trying, though! This leaves the option to log more details using BackLog (as outlined above).
Before that: I just looked again at all posts from this topic and noticed that the screenshot from Finder reports 2.79 GB for all 265 folders and the 93 files in Mp3tag are reported as 2.75 GB.
It's not a big difference in size, so I'm wondering what's inside all those folders? Can you describe what's missing and, if possible, provide a screenshot of the folder contents that are not listed in Mp3tag?
I hadn't noticed that, however the screenshot I sent earlier was not from Finder, but from the Mp3tag program's Open function, so the figure it shows is (presumably) what Mp3tag sees. If I look it up in Finder, the figure for all the 272 folders is 212.67gb. There are maybe 500 CDs in there, I don't know how many thousand tracks, so it wouldn't be practical to do a screenshot of them all. Strangely, the CDs uploaded by Mp3tag seem to be randomly picked from the list.
I don't know how the recent files and folders view of the macOS open window works, but it might really only list those folders that were modified in October (as shown on your screenshot).
Can you try grouping the files by Name in the open window? This is done by clicking on this icon
I'm trying something different now: can you identify one or two folders out of the 265 folders that are not listed in Mp3tag, but which you can see in Finder?
Please create a screenshot of the folder contents in Finder. Then try to navigate to those folder via File → Open.... Can you find the folders?
Also, what kind of storage medium is folder "CD Uploads" on (external hard drive, network attached storage, cloud, ...)?
