Mp3tag v2.89a released

I've just released Mp3tag v2.89

With this version, I’ve taken a leap and completely rewrote the Tag Panel layout. Especially when docked horizontally, the fields now flow naturally and the cover art window resizes based on the panel size. I really like it and I hope you do too

All fields are now configurable (including the default fields) and can have one of four different sizes (normal, smaller, small and multiline). I’ve added an option to enable/disable fields (also available via right-click on the Tag Panel) and ways of loading and saving Tag Panel configurations.

As if this was not already enough, I’ve added support for long file paths (> 260 characters). This was a change I was hesitant to make for a long time, as it affects many, many parts of Mp3tag.

I’ve also updated the Discogs and MusicBrainz tag sources, which stopped working due to changes on their servers. You can review the many other changes in the changelog.

:rocket: You can download the new version from

:orange_heart: And if you like Mp3tag and want to support my work as an Indie Developer, I’m happy about any contribution

Enjoy and take care

I've already expected some issues after the release of Mp3tag v2.89. The past two days were pure "execution mode"

I've just released Mp3tag v2.89a which fixes the following issues:

  • FIX: navigating via Tab from and to Tag Panel did not work as intended (since v2.88c).
  • CHG: improved writing performance for Ogg Vorbis and FLAC files. (#42307)
  • FIX: runtime error on some systems when file creation and modification dates were malformed (since v2.88f).
  • FIX: runtime error when executing user-defined tools with files with UNC paths (since v2.88f). (#42250)
  • FIX: performance regression when running export on large libraries on network shares (since v2.88f).
  • FIX: relative paths at actions 'Import cover from file' and 'Import text file' were not supported anymore (since v2.88f). (#42288)

Enjoy and take care

Großes Lob für das Update des Tag Panels!
Big kudos for redsigning the Tag Panel! It resolved quite some pain that I didn't even dare to ask being improved:slight_smile:
Especially shrinking small fields (like th compilation flag, or simple date fileds) now allows having more than one in a row, significantly saving vertical screen real estate.
Great Job, keep it up Florian!
