MP3TAG won't see any mp3 files

I have been using this software for years on an XP machine with no problems, but I've just installed it to a new PC (windows 7) here is my problem:

When I click File/Change directory and navigate to any folder containing MP3 files I just get no items match your search! there are definitely MP3 files in there but it just won't see them what am I doing wrong?

This dialog does not show any files, you must only select a folder and then just press "Select Folder"

I knew it would be simple. I feel a bit stupid now!
