Need help understanding how to remove ID3v1 tags

My goal is to remove ID3V1 tags, and just have ID3v2.3 & APEv2 tags.
Here's the process I took - hoping someone can point to what I missed . . .

Step 1:Uncheck ID3v1 from Write, check ID3v1 for remove (screen shot)

Step 2: Tag Sources, Discogs, select album, apply tags (worked, as new tags are visible)
However, ID3v1 tags still exist:

Do I need to enable ID3v1 under Write?

Only leave id3v1 checked under remove. Then use the red X :x: icon to remove id3v1 from all selected files.
