Good day. I am brand new to MP3Tag, though I’ve been playing with MP3 tags in Windows for a long time. Finally trying to correctly tag my music collection to my liking, but I’m a bit delightfully overwhelmed with learning MP3Tag. I did manage to figure out how to add fields to my tag panel (mind blown at all the options). In short, I’m trying to figure out how to add a field for Discogs ID. I don’t need to import these fields, but would like to record this information for some tracks / albums.
I see there are fields to do this for MusicBrainz, but Discogs appears to be missing? Is there a way to do this? Please forgive me if this has already been answered somewhere, I did try to search but I could not find anything (at least not that I could understand yet). I’d be grateful for any guidance or suggestions.
Do you already have a file that has the discogs id as an example?
If so, select it, press Alt-T to open the extended tags dialogue in which you can see the fields of that file.
Use the field name that indicates the discogs id (close the extended tags dialogue) and create a new tag panel item for which enter the field name that you just found in the extended tags dialogue.
Unfortunately, I do not (at least not that I am aware of). I’m sure that it’s likely somewhere, but which track/album, I do not know (or how I would see or search for that information). Great idea though, I like your thought process on that.
Load all your files
Select all the files in the file list
Open the extended tags dialogue Alt-T
Now you see a list of all fields of all the files. Check if there is a field name that might possibly be the one for the discogs id (e.g. DISCOGS_ID).
Remember that name, close the extended tags dialogue and now filter for files with that field
Enter e.g. as filter expression:
%discogs_id% PRESENT
(use the field name that you really found)
Check the extended tags dialogue again, this time only for a single selected file and see whether you got the right field.
(If not, you have to repeat the search and filter for the next field name)
The Discogs Tag Sources that are installed with Mp3tag are importing the Discogs Release ID to the DISCOGS_RELEASE_ID field.
Thank you for this. When I go into the Tag Panel, in the FIELD dropdown, I’m not seeing DISCOGS_RELEASE_ID as an option to select. I’m assuming this can be added?
You simply type it in if the name cannot be selected from the list.
