Opens in background when opened from context menu in XYplorer

Link here for those unfamiliar with the file manager:

No idea if the problem lies with mp3tag or XYplorer.

You could test it with other applications that open from the context menu.

Has it ever worked for you before, perhaps with an earlier version of Mp3tag?

Update:
I downloaded XYplorer 28.20.0200 (64-bit, 12-Feb-2026) in its portable version.
The unzipped 30 days evaluation version started, I selected "Mp3tag" from the context menu inside XYplorer.
This worked fine for a folder containing music files, as well as for some selected music files. As expected, Mp3tag appears at the top in both cases (not in the background).

Please provide more details and some examples to help us reproduce the behaviour.

Interesting. I can tell you that mp3tag has never opened in the foreground on this machine, which I built in January 2025 with a fresh install of Windows 11. I’m also using the 64-bit version of the program.

I just tried running XYplorer as an administrator to see if that made any difference, but mp3tag isn’t shown in the context menu if I do that.

What exactly do you mean by this?

Can you see "Mp3tag" in the XYplorer context menu or not?
Or can you see it in the context menu, but Mp3tag does not open in the foreground/on top (and remains in the background) with the selected files or folders?

Maybe a screenshot can help?

I mean that mp3tag does not appear in the XYplorer context menu if I run the program as an administrator. mp3tag does appear in the context menu if I open XYplorer normally (i.e., not as an administrator), but it always opens in the background if I open it using the context menu.

What I can confirm:

If I open XYplorer (again the portable version) as Administrator, I can not see "Mp3tag" as entry in the XYplorer context menu.

If I open XYplorer as normal user without Administrator rights, I see "Mp3tag" as context entry - for both, the context menu on a folder or the selected file(s):

If I right click on a folder or selected files and then choose the "Mp3tag" option from the visible XYplorer context menu, the folder content or selected files are shown in the foreground (inside Mp3tag).

What answers did you receive from people on the XYplorer forum to this question?

This is also what my tests are showing (running 64-bit portable XYplorer 28.20.0200). Mp3tag is opening in the foreground.

Can you try Mp3tag v3.34-beta.3?

Problem remains, sadly.

OK, thanks for testing anyway.

I'm moving this to Support as I don't see at the moment how this is a bug in Mp3tag.
