Playing files - Single vs. Double Click

Before Win11Pro, in Win10Pro, I was able to play a file by dragging it to my VLC player and it would interrupt/ignore whatever was playing before OR I could double-click the file (or maybe it was single-click) and ADD it to VLC’s playlist. Is there some setting I forgot having to change in order to be able to choose b/w interrupting VLC and adding to its playlist?

The software or batch file that should be used on a double click inside Mp3tag can be set at
File -> Options -> Tools:

The software used to "Play" a song in Mp3tag is defined by the file extension association, like .mp3 or .flac. These extensions has to be associated with VLC in your case in Windows 11 Pro.

Mp3Tag plays music files with the default player of your windows system. Mp3Tag shows the icon of this default player in the list-windows on the left side.

Windows often tends to forget the default player during upgrades. This just happened to me again after upgrading from Windows 11 24H2 to 25H2. You can reset the default settings in Windows Settings.

Alternatively, as Lyricslover suggested, you can also specify a different player than the default Windows player in Mp3tag's options, specifically for use within Mp3tag.

With drag&drop you have to check whether you need to press a modifier key to influence the behaviour of the receiving application.
Some like it plain, others want e.g. Ctrl to be pressed.

For the current VLC version you don't need to press a modifier key.

However, it makes a difference whether you drop a file into the playing view of VLC (the window where you see the cover art or some kind of visualisation for the currently played song) or into your VLC playlist.
Your dropped song will only be added to the playlist; it won't be played immediately.
