Please, simplify lyrics edition

I see a lot of people questioning how to add lyrics to a mp3.
No wonder. It is so hidden and so misterious that I can't understand why you keep that way a feature so many people use.
Why insist in so many steps?
1 - I have to type Alt-T to open the Extended Tag window.
2 - Then click the Add Field Button.
3 - Then click the dropdown button.
4 - Then scroll down and find UNSYNCEDLYRICS (Lucky me I know the name of this field)
5 - Finally paste the desired lyrics.
6 - Then click Ok to close the Field window.
7 - Then click another Ok to close the Extended Tag window.
Honestly, can you really tell me this is what you call usability?
Thanks,
Marcio

As this is always the necessary way to add content to any tag-field that is not default either in the the tag-panel or in the collumns I cannot see any speciality in adding unsyncedlyrics.

If you want to avoid using the extened tag-menue just put unsyncedlyrics permanently in the columns or add it permanently to the tag-panel with "Tools-Options - Tag-Panel".

The usability can be seen if you consider that not all users need this field.
For your workflow: you are free to add the field to

  • the columns of the files list and/or
  • the tag panel

Doing this reduces the list of yours to just one point:
5 - Finally paste the desired lyrics.

I think that is pretty usable.

If you are not quite sure what to enter when adding a column to the file view:
Enter a decent name like Lyrics.
Value: %unsyncedlyrics%
Field: %unsyncedlyrics%
Sort by:
(leave empty)

In what ever media player that you are using maybe, but that NOT may be the case for other players.

The 'standard' is specified at >> http://id3.org/Lyrics3v2

'Chris Hirst' you have given a bad reference.
Mp3tag does not support "Lyrics3v2".

You can also use the action "Import text file".

I didn't suggest that it did, the link is for the id3.org standard on including lyrics in MP3 files, there is also a .lrc file extension method of including sychronised or unsychronised lyrics that I wouldn't expect Mp3tag to support either.

The panel is the right answer to simplify lyrics editions! Thanks!!
Adding the unsyncedlyrics field to the grid does not work, at least for me.
I did it before posting my complaints here, thinking I would be able to edit the lyrics the same way the grid works for other fields: a single click at the column launches the edit mode.
But that is not true. Nothing happens when I click the lyrics column.

Have you entered definitions for "value" and "field" when you defined the Column?
Have you read my post #3 Please, simplify lyrics edition
If you say "launch the edit mode" what kind of reaction do you expect?

The tag panel is, IMHO, not the best way to do it as, unless you have set it differently, you explicidly have to save the modified data. In the files list, the data is saved when you leave a field.

I am not a friend of editing the tag-field UNSYNCEDLYRICS within the list view.
But I have defined a column ...
Name=Lyrics
Value=$left(%UNSYNCEDLYRICS%,30)
Field=
SortBy=
Numeric=
... to check whether there is some data stored.

How to insert data into the tag-field UNSYNCEDLYRICS?

(Note: Mp3tag/Options/General/Auto-completion at selection boxes must be set to ON)

After pressing [Alt+T] [Ins] [U] [N] [S] [Tab] [Tab] the cursor is located within the edit box for the value of the UNSYNCEDLYRICS data.
After pressing [Shift+Ins] the data from the clipboard has been inserted.
After pressing [Enter] [Enter] the tag has been saved to the file.

Using the Tag-Panel can be faster ...

(Note: There must set a multi-line edit field with the name &Lyrics for the tag-field UNSYNCEDLYRICS)

After pressing [Ctrl+Q] [Alt+L] the cursor is located within the edit box for the value of the UNSYNCEDLYRICS data.
After pressing [Shift+Ins] the data from the clipboard has been inserted.
After pressing [Ctrl+S] the tag has been saved to the file.
