Hi, I have been using (and supporting) MP3tag for many years now and love the tool.
However, I did not find out yet if there is a way to populate the "Album Review" field that shows up in Plex directly in MP3tag.
After some research, it seems that Plex pulls the data from MusicBrainz, but in the MusicBrainz Picard app you could enter the data in the "MusicBrainz_Description" field (according to the comment in this source: https://www.reddit.com/r/plexamp/comments/15bu8nu/review_field/)
I did find many MusicBrainz related fields in MP3tag, but the "description" field is missing.
Is there a change of adding it in a future release?
Many thanks in advance, Bob
You can try using DESCRIPTION directly via extended tags at Alt+ T or inspect a file in Mp3tag which already shows the album review for you in Plex.
Once you have the right field name, you can add a column to the File List and add a field to the Tag Panel.
See, this is why I love Mp3tag!
It worked like a charm on the first try!
Just a quick note for other users: in order to get Plex to recognize this field, you need to choose "Prefer Local Metadata" in your Plex settings.
I'm just curious:
Could you show us an example of such an "Album Review" text?
Maybe with an URL to a release on MusicBrainz?
I am not sure what you mean.
The point is to populate the "album review" field if there is no MusicBrainz data that Plex can pull.
This field will be displayed in Plex like this here:
Thank you.
Where exactly is Plex getting the 'Vortrag von...' from in your example?
Do you enter this text manually in Mp3tag? Or in Plex?
Which source provides this text?
I entered the text manually in Mp3tag and Plex reads it out.
You COULD enter it manually directly in Plex, but then when you have a new installation or other issues, you would have to do it again, in the other example it is stored directly in the mp3-metadata.
OK you enter the review text manually.
But why did you mention MusicBrainz in your question?
I don't yet understand, where MusicBrainz is involved in this case?
It's not involved and the OT is not related to MusicBrainz (I've tried to explain this via PM already).
The relation to MusicBrainz comes from the linked Reddit post, where a user filled the description field manually via MusicBrainz Picard. Emphasis is on manual entering of this information - the OP assumed some relation to MusicBrainz and a special MB description field where there isn't any.
This is also the reason why I haven't picked up any of that in my initial reply.
Usually Plex pulls the data directly from MusicBrainz, BUT there are many albums (especially audio books), where there is NO data from MusicBrainz to pull, so entering that data manually into the mp3 metadata is (in my opinion) a good fix.
This only works with mp3 files. Is there a solution for FLAC files?
