Replacing an mp3 cover with a new one

I have got an mp3 file which has a jpg cover added to it which I am trying to replace.

If I remove the cover and save then play the mp3 file, it plays without any image. But when I add a new image as the cover and save it, when I play the file again the old image comes up even though the new cover is shown in mp3tag.

I have used the same image on a number of other files without any problems, so I know that the jpg is not faulty. Can anyone tell me how to solve the problem as it only occuring on this one file, and it is driving me mad.

Rename the file so that it gets imported into the player as a new file.
Or delete it in the player and import it again.
In short: it looks like a player problem as

Depending on the player, can you initiate a rescan or force it to reread the metadata?

This happened in my car quite often, where I was using a USB stick for music. The car would read the stick the first time, and basically not update ever. If I added new music, it would read it, but existing tracks never got “rescanned”.

It’s likely your player is doing this also. You need to clear its cache, which may be almost impossible.

It is VLC player that I am using, and if I update the cover of any other mp3 file it changes and plays without a problem?

And I can now say that following the instructions posted on here, I have finally solved the problem.

Thank you…
