Replacing Cover Art in each file

HI
I have 500 Files with one cover art for all. I need to replace each one with a new cover art but The cover art is staying with just 1 unless I also change a character in the Album box. This is tedius and involves a lot of time to change a character for each of the 500 albums. Is there a quicker way to do this?

You could try:

Load all 500 files into Mp3tag.
Select all 500 files (CTRL + A)
Right click on the Cover Art zone in the lower left corner
Choose "Remove Cover" from the context menu
-> This removes ALL covers from all selected files!
Then drag & drop your one new cover art for all to your still selected 500 files into the Cover Art zone.
Press CTRL + S or click on the blue diskette symbol in the toolbar to save this change.

Thank you but I need to Change each cover for the 500. And when I do and Copy them to a usb the car display is only showing One Cover?

You want to change 500 different covers for 500 different files?

Then you should have a look here:

Do you have your 500 files in one single folder?
How do you have named your 500 cover art pictures?

For this separate problem, you would have to check if your car player works fine if you do this job for - let's say - 3 example files. Just to be sure that changing the embedded cover really works and the car player does not expect the cover as separate picture in the same folder.

Will Try this and Thanks very much for your reply. I did notice the car did display previous covers of say a batch of 10 with one cover the the next batch of 10 with a different cover and so on. I did a test with a few files and still the same issue. Having said that, When I play the usb on my streamer all is ok. This would suggest it is an issue with the car display.

To be absolutely sure, load this files into Mp3tag.
If you see a different cover for each file in Mp3tag, you must check with your car player why these covers are not displayed.

Maybe there is some kind of cache? (If yes, can you try to delete it?)
Maybe the car player is using online sources (and tries to guess the cover from album name or title?)

As we don't own the same car player, we are not much help in this case.

Your help has been great and very much appriciated

Please check which fields you have filled in the files.
You should fill ALBUMARTIST, ARTIST, TITLE, ALBUM to get all the data so that a decent player can group the files together.
If e.g. the ALBUMARTIST and ALBUM are missing, then all TITLEs belong to that unknown albumartist and may be treated as the same unknown album which has the same picture.

Here's a sample photo...

Looking at the screenshots, I noticed 2 things:

  • The picture format is PNG - which is a valid format according to the MP3 standard but it could be that your player only works with JPG pictures.
  • The field for Album Artist shows no data - adding data to ALBUMARTIST was one of the suggestions to cope with the problem.

Great and Thank You. I will give this a go.

Hi All,

Just an update - The only way I can find to fix the issue is to change 1 character or add 1 character to each item in the box 'album'. Worked fine only I have 1400 items of which each one needs a character change  Thanks for all suggestions.

To be quite honest: I don't understand what messing with the data in ALBUM should fix.
Is it problem of the player that needs to re-read the data to display the correct picture?

If you want to modifiy something more or less arbitrary, you could try:
Select all files and then
Convert>Tag-Tag for ALBUM
Format string: %album%_$num(%_counter%,4)
this adds an underscore and a 4-digit-number to ALBUM.
If you find that you want to remove that as you found out what the better way for modifications would be, it should be easy enough to remove that trailing number.

Thanks. This actually worked for the car. And you are correct to say the issue is only in the car. Thanks for everybody's help with this.
