I'd like to see a way to selectively delete APE tags. I don't need them and have found data in them that is not read by Mp3tag, but shows up in Winamp. For now I'm cutting and pasting to this standard:
ID3v2.3 (ID3v1 ID3v2.3)
I can do this by checking only APE for removal, but is that recommended?
If you set MP3tag File>Options>Tags>Mpeg to only read and delete APE you more or less have that function.
Yet: you have to physically remove this data from the files, so the files have to be rewritten. If this takes longer if you keep doing it the way you did until now, I do not know. I would think: it is about the same.
It's faster just to delete them. I'm thinking about getting rid of the ID3v1 tags also, but am not aware of the problems that might entail. It's been a long time since i've run across an app that requires them. It seems like it was in the 1990s.
I removed all my ID3v1 tags several years ago. Having both those and ID3v2.3 tags can sometimes create issues. Unless you have very old players, the ID3v1 tags are of no use.
