When connected to NordVPN, I noted MP3Tag becomes much slower to start: perhaps 8 seconds instead of the usual 1 second or so. Everything works fine, but this behavior repeats on every startup. I tried disabling "check for new updates" on startup, but that makes no difference. I don't need a resolution, but thought it might be helpful to report it. Thanks.
In comparison to which other setup?
Where is the use of a VPN necessary to operate MP3tag?
Are you using Threat Protection? From what I read on their website
If the Threat Protection engine can’t determine whether a file is malicious, it can upload it to the cloud for a more detailed scan.
This could explain all sorts of delays.
I do use Threat Protection, however the option to upload indeterminate files is Off. And I see the 3.25 setup EXE marked as "safe".
Yesterday, I could turn the VPN on and off and watch MP3Tag startup time reliably switch between slow and fast. Anyhow, for whatever reason, this slowdown has now disappeared! Perhaps it's related to my updating to 3.25 a few days ago (also donated $25 ;)). But that doesn't sound right. I'm wondering if MP3Tag accesses some internet site on startup (outside of checking for updates) and perhaps that site was hard to reach yesterday. Of course that would have needed to be a blocking access, which doesn't sound likely.
I also work behind a VPN (but a different one), for the last few weeks I have been using mp3tag all day, always starting and closing it, updated to the latest version, and noticed no delays whatsoever.
Just my two cents...
Yes, maybe the actual Mp3tag.exe from inside this setup file wasn't already known enough to them. Those systems usually also factor in how widely used an executable is, i.e., the more it gets detected on various systems running their software, the more likely it is to pass.
I can definitely answer no to that. Mp3tag doesn't connect anywhere else, except when using Tag Sources, where it uses the respective data source.
