Splitting a field

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me how I can split a field keeping only the first part of it like this please:

The Day (IDIOT012BP2)

I need to remove everything in the parenthesis and the trailing space (in this case after the letter 'y')

I've searched the forum and found this post to be similar to what I need but my regex knowledge is dire!

Perhaps you try this:
Create an action of the type "Replace with regular expression" for the field that has too much information.
Enter as search string:
(.) (.
Enter as replace string:
$1

I only got as far as (.*) before getting frustrated and posting for help!
