Suggestion: Open configuration Folder automatic

Hello dear members of Mp3tag...

I have programs open configuration folder, ZIP file or Settings with files, ini

I can download the configurations, it allows me to quickly choose among some configurations that I have programmed and which are automatically installed in the program in a few seconds...

I tried with Mp3tag, I found the ZIP file, which I unzip in a folder and I have to place the files myself manually in the folders...

Is there a command in Mp3tag, to be able to place the configuration automatically in the program?

I don't know how many different configurations you use.
But if these are just 2 most frequently used, then it may be an alternative to install 2 versions of MP3tag on the same computer:

  • a standard installation and
  • a portable installation.

Like that you have at these 2 environments available with a double click.

ohrenkino, I imagine that on average users can have 2 configurations...

I would like to have at least 2 minimum...

It's great to keep the configuration of our TAGS, but it would be nice to be able to save in this configuration, the configuration of the Mpeg page...

That could be a request that I could make to Florian...

I find that your idea, to be able to have the 2 installations is interesting, I did not know that we could have the 2 in the same computer...

When I right-click with the mouse on an audio file, will the computer offer me the 2 Mp3tag versions?

I have an installation in standard version,
For the portable installation, what is the difference with the standard version?

The portable version will not be available from the right-click menu.

Thanks for the info, MotleyG

It would not be registered by the system as installed app. So you simply delete the installation folder if you do not want it any more.
This would also mean, that you choose a folder different from the ordinary locations so that the 2 versions do not overwrite each others settings.
This way you could have as many different installations as you like, provided only one of them is a "standard" installation.
It would also mean that you have to do the housekeeping and distribute common actions, exports and web source scripts to each of the installations (where required).

Thanks ohrenkino, this is a very interesting solution, which can allow us to have 2 or more Mp3tag configurations

I like to work, with a right click to choose my files...
MotleyG mentioned to me that I could not use it for this version

That means in this portable version, I have to choose my audio files from Mp3tag...

Or open MP3tag and drag&drop the files from the explorer...

See also the documenation on installation:

Thanks for the info, I'll look into it...

The portable version of most programs is not actually installed through Windows. So there is no integration ofthe Windows shortcuts like the right-click action in Explorer. If you choose to have both versions on your system, only the Installer version will be accessed using the Explorer menus.

Thanks MotleyG, I understand... :+1:

But when I have several hours of free time soon, I will try the portable version of Mp3tag and I will do my tests...

If I have any questions or some difficulties, I will write to you on the Mp3tag community...

Have a good day :slightly_smiling_face:
