I have an mp3 file which I used mp3tag's "Extended Tag dialog" to remove all unwanted tags.

Why doesn't the "Album Artist" get displayed in mp3tag ? I have it set to read all tags
To start, please make sure that you're not editing the APEv2 tag of the file (disable reading and writing of APEv2 at Options > Tags > Mpeg).
Mp3tag support the Album Artist tag and displays it as BAND in the Extended Tag Dialog. That means that if you don't see it, it's most likely not stored in the ID3v2 tag.
You can also try to delete the tag and rewrite it via Mp3tag's undo feature [Ctrl+Z].
I followed your instructions and no matter what I do it always has the "Album Artist" tag in the file properties in Vista.
I checked other files that I ripped of CD and converted myself and they have the same problem...Must be a Vista thing.
