Taglist file (Need Basic instructions)

#1

I'm a newbie and have approx 2000 songs with no tags but I have an excel spread sheet with all the info available. I have spent about an hour with varios fornmat lines
and taglist structures but can't get the import to work. Maddeningly enough the program comes back and tells me "Taglist extracted from C:\kevtag.txt and saved in 20 of 20 files" but actually doesn't write anything in the files. I have searched the forum for taglist info but I think my question might be too simple.

The help file gives the following example:

Example:
Line in file: Artist/Title/Album/Year
Formatstring: %artist% / %title% / %album% / %year%

My current file looks like:
1/INTERSTATE LOVE SONG/STONE TEMPLE PILOTS/ALTERNATIVE/83
2/I MELT WITH YOU/MODERN ENGLISH/ALTERNATIVE/153
3/DEC. 1963 (OH WHAT A NIGHT)/FOUR SEASONS/CLASSICS/105
4/INTO THE GROOVE/MADONNA/CLASSICS/116

My format string is:

%track% / %title% / %artist% / %genre% / %comment%

I feel like I must be missing something basic here since everybody else seems to be using this feature. Anyhelp would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Kevin

The help file is with Artist / Title / Album / Year
-> notice the spaces around /

You must use %track%/%title%/%artist%/%genre%/%comment%

Wow! I looked at the help file in both IE and Fire fox and you cannot tell
there are spaces around the slashes. Which is odd because the spaces show up very clearly around the format line. They should probably add a note in the help file warning people about that.

The good news is that it worked perfectly. Mp3tag has just saved me days of effort!!!
