Taglist-File - Tag gives character mess-up

#1

Where I have

Sus éxitos con Andrés Falgás y Teófilo Ibanez

in a taglist file (viewing in Textpad), Convert | Taglist-File - Tag produces

Sus éxitos con Andrés Falgás y Teófilo Ibanez

(viewed in mp3tag). Yuk!

Copy'n'paste is OK.

Any ideas?

The file seems to be UTF-8 encoded, so be sure to have Mp3tag v2.33 and that the file has a byte order marker.

Or convert the file to normal ANSI encoding.

#3

be sure to have Mp3tag v2.33

I do.

and that the file has a byte order marker.

The file was created by mp3tag Export, which should be sufficient surely.

#4

No. The export writes no BOM. You can add one by opening the file in notepad and saving it.

#5

The export is totally counter intuitive if I have to manually add the BOM myself... Why doesn't it do it? Shouldn't that be an added feature?

#6

I'm planning to add an option for that to the next release  Thanks for your feedback!

Best regards,
~ Florian

#7

The current Development Build features an option Write UTF-8 BOM at Options > Export.

#8

Thanks.

#9

Thanks, but tt doesn't fix the problem.

  1. Export with '[ ] Write UTF-8 BOM'
  2. Edit file in Textpad
  3. import with Taglist -> Tag

International characters are corrupted e.g.

Alfredo Marcucci canta Ramón Regueira

to

Alfredo Marcucci canta Ramón Regueira

This is serious prang for me. Any advice on a workaround greatly appreciated.

#10

Did you export with BOM? If yes, it seems that Textpad removes the BOM by default.
Search for BOM at http://www.textpad.info/forum/search.php

Did you export with BOM?

Sorry - yes.

If yes, it seems that Textpad removes the BOM by default.

Thanks. So what editor works by default with mp3tag?

#12

In that forum are guides how to setup Textpad to write a BOM.

Aside from that, the normal Notepad works perfect.
The freeware programs Notepad++ and PSPad ain't bad, too.

#13

the normal Notepad works perfect.

Thanks, but not here. e.g.

1 in Options | Export, ensure '[V] Write UTF-8 BOM' checked
2 Export (dialog box doesn't offer 'Write UTF-8 BOM' option)
3 View in Textpad 4.7.3 : 32-bit Edition:

2 Los mareados Alfredo Marcucci canta Ramón Regueira

i.e. OK.

4 View in Notepad Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 : Service Pack 2):

2 Los mareados Alfredo Marcucci canta Ramón Regueira

i.e. corrupt.

(Those samples are corrupted by this forum - multiple spaces collapsed, GOK why!)
