Tags for WAV files still not supported in iTunes?

I have a few wav files that I used MP3TAG to add a year to the the year field. So It shows fine in the mp3tag listing if I add those files back again to see that the tags were added.. But when I add the files to iTunes it doesn't acknowledge the year was added it shows blank.

Is this normal? On PC with latest version of programs.

(edit just the question from 2011 just making sure it was still not supported) and if not.. out of curiosity why not?

Thanks.

Isn't this a question for the Apple support?
One way to get tag data into iTunes would be to delete the file from the list in iTunes and then add the file again.
iTunes should read the tag data and show it. If that does not happen, then probably the player does not support that kind of file format.
I suspect as Apple likes to use its own world, a conversion of the files to an Apple lossless format would be the way to go.

Yes, metadata for WAV is still not supported by iTunes. You can convert to ALAC to have a lossless version of your WAVs that are smaller with proper metadata support by iTunes.

Thanks for the answer, it is what it is for my case.
But.. is bpm considered metadata? Reason I am asking is that I also use beatunes5 to figure out the bpm and it shows up fine on iTunes after I run the tracks using that program. Thank you.

Yes, BPM is considered metadata and it shows when you open Extended Tags via Alt+T in Mp3tag.

In my local tests with latest iTunes (12.13.7.1), this field wasn't displayed in iTunes' Show Info dialog, even after I removed and re-added the file to its library.

It's possible that beaTunes is directly updating the iTunes library, which would explain your observation. However, I don't know for sure — maybe you want to ask their support how they're doing this?
