As above suggests, for instance,
the original Filename when imported into MP3Tag is….
Massive Attack - Angel.wma
The Artist field is already populated with….
Massive Attack ….( i’m happy to overwrite it , or not )
How can i copy and paste, from the Filename, just the word …
Angel
into the empty Title field, without the file extension….
.wma…
also without the words…
Massive Attack - …..(in this case, the hyphen and spaces aren’t required in the Artist field )
I have been struggling with this for most of the past 2 days, have tried various Actions, Converts, $regexp strings, all to no avail. I get very close, according to the Previews, but always end up with either blanks or strings in the title field, instead of words.
I want to preserve the Filename as original.
Massive appreciation to any Angel who can help me Attack this successfully
Try Convert>Filename-Tag
Format string: %artist% - %title%
or if you really only want to import the last bit following the hyphen into TITLE:
Format string: %dummy% - %title%
Thankyou, thankyou, thank you !
I’m sure that i tried that a dozen times, but when i couldn’t make it work, i ended up on a long journey down some very deep rabbit holes ( learning lots along the way that will, one day, come in handy. )
Much appreciation to you, i hope you have a wonderful day !!
Converters are the heart and soul of Mp3tag and are worth careful study.
See the Menu Convert page and its linked pages.
You can save yourself a lot of time by learning those techniques....
Thanks Doug, i have been working through the Menu, and i will a lot more, for sure. I’m new to the language, but i’m determined to organise my friend’s collection of 15,000 tracks. So i’m looking for the best ways to bulk/batch tag ( they are all different formats, genres, etc and with varying degrees of info ). Wish me luck
