Using the Google Play Music web source

Oh! great gurus...
I have copied the .src into C:\Users<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mp3tag\data\sources>
but Google Play Music does not show up in the menu "Tag Sources"

Directory of C:\Users<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mp3tag\data\sources

I tried restarting mp3tag but still no show.

What am I missing?
Other than copying the file in the directory, is there something else I'm supposed to do to get Google source to show up in the menu along with freedb and Discogs?
Reboot?

Thanks very much to help out a newbie

The question is: does MP3tag look into that folder at all or somewhere else e.g. when you installed MP3tag as portable installation.

You can quickly find out which folder MP3tag uses if you create a Tool (Tools>Options>Tools) which calls the Windows Explorer and opens it in the data path:
Path: C:\Windows\explorer.exe
Parameters: '/e,"'$getEnv('MP3TAGAPPDATA')'"'
Execute this tool and see where the Explorer opens.
The tag source script shoud then be in the folder "sources"

Thanks for the input
However... getting this issue with the suggestion. When trying to execute the tool I should be accessing the "Tools" menu, right? And.... hold on to this... the new tool created does not show up neither under the Tools menu.

So, in both cases of Tools and Tag Sources it seems my mp3tag does not "read" dynamically to update its menus.

However, note that I believe the answer to the question "does MP3tag look into that folder at all or somewhere else?" would I expect to be in the same directory as the current tag sources. I am able to see all the tag sources in the directory C:\Users<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mp3tag\data\sources as shown above. So... would not installing the .src script in the same directory as for Discogs.src be the correct action to execute? I do not have any other "Mp3tag" directory on the whole laptop

Thanks much

"Tool ..." is a function of the right-click context menu of the files list, not the menu "Tools" in the menu bar.

yup! sorry. i went on reading how to use the tool "AlbumArt Downloader" and found that out...

OK. I used the right-click function and it confirmed the directory I saved the script into is the right one.
C:\Users\JUDY\AppData\Roaming\Mp3tag\data\sources

The Explorer tool gave me the following directory:
C:\Users\JUDY\AppData\Roaming\Mp3tag so... that directory followed by \data\sources should be correct

If the path is correct then the new web source should appear at least as soon as you restart MP3tag.

I would.

Please copy and post the complete file path, including file name and extension.

Unfortunately the Google Play Music tag source still does not show. Here is the .cmd

Should I do Windoze reboot?

Nope. No change after reboot. Still see all the .src in the directory but they do not show up under the Tag Sources menu. Only the standard ones.

Any way we can enable some debugging on this mp3tag tool?

Maybe the last time you installed Mp3tag it was as a portable app.

Try placing the SRC file in the installation folder: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mp3tag\data\sources"

According to the timestamp of this file, you've last closed Mp3tag on 06/14/2019 01:13 AM. As @ryerman pointed out, you've probably installed Mp3tag in a different directory as portable installation. This directory then also has a file mp3tag.cfg and a data\sources folder.

Quote from Florian:

Answers:

Furthermore, the mp3tag software was installed from the following files directly downloaded from
https://www.mp3tag.de/en/index.html

The downloaded file was found under:
https://www.mp3tag.de/en/download.html

Then i downloaded it to my stage area where i keep all my downloaded software. you will also found this is where i first saved the .src files downloaded before copying them over into the mp3tag directory /data/sources as instructed:

To summarize:

  • I downloaded the software from mp3tag website. https://www.mp3tag.de/en/download.html
  • I did not select the portable install but the full install. mp3tagv295setup.exe
  • I installed it as a regular software which installed it under C:\Users\JUDY\AppData\Roaming\Mp3tag
  • I then downloaded the .src to get access to other Tag Sources and copied them over to:
    C:\Users\JUDY\AppData\Roaming\Mp3tag\data\sources

Sorry.... I dont think this is going to be an easy answer.
Anyway I can debug that thing? Enable logging or .... ?

Nope, that is not the standard folder, this is just the data folder. The exe file should be (if you have not changed anything) in the folder program files.
Or, if you have specified a different folder, then look there (but I cannot look over your shoulder and see what you do or have done).
What has happend to the investigation why the cfg-file (which gets updated during each session) has such an old timestamp? I take the old timestamp as an indication that you look at one spot but the party happens somewhere else.

I let Windows 10 install to whatever directory is the default one.
I did not specify any particular directory during the install

The mp3tag.cfg is still showing as:
C:\Users\JUDY\AppData\Roaming\Mp3tag>dir
...
06/14/2019 01:13 AM 8,078 mp3tag.cfg

However I have identified a newer directory:

  • I first setup Windows Explorer to show all hidden files and directories
  • then I searched on mp3tag
  • I found the following installation:

C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\35795FlorianHeidenreich.Mp3tag_2.95.0.0_x86__rf0p6xgxmspcc>dir

So I copied the .src into this ... WindowsApps/.../mp3tag/data/sources
And Bingo! Now I can see all the other sources

So my questions and suggestions to the team are:

is this expected on Windows 10?
Again, I can assure you that I did NOT specify any directory to install and just let Windows Installer go as it wished using all defaults. I could redo the installation again if you would like me to do so, after I cleaned up the laptop as per @ohrenkino instructions.

Please, let me know if you would like me to do so.

before you re-install, have a look at all the possible places (see here: Installation & Backup) and remove any remains

Hi Florian and ohrenkino, can you review my last update?
I think I found what the issue is on Windows 10

I spoke too soon. I'm trying to copy the .src under \data\sources in this WindowsApps directory but I'm being prevented by security access though I have Administrator rights on this computer.
I have tried to validate the JUDY user access and it's only "Read"
There are no "Edit" button hence I cannot add "Full Access" to JUDY

Have you had issues installing on Win 10?

AFAIK windows uses this folder to store the apps from a its store.
MP3tag should not be such an app.
So do not only un-install MP3tag from the desktop windows but also with the means of the store.

OK. that worked!

  • deinstalled using Revo Uninstaller Pro to ensure the MS Apps Store install was cleaned
  • reinstalled using the downloaded .exe from mp3tag
  • as soon as I started mp3tag, since the .src were still existing under %APPDATA%, the menu was able to show the other tag sources. Fixed!

Now... in regards to that MS Store install I had. I probably never realized I had installed mp3tag using the MS Store while doing all my testing to fix this behavior. If you check you will see the software is made available in MS Store. After having experienced the issue with that kind of install I would suggest to either remove "mp3tag" software entirely from the MS Store... or maybe modify the installation so even if installed from the MS Store in the WindowsApps directory, the mp3tag should still be able to read the .src under %APPDATA% like the regular install does?
That might be something like a bug to address eventually?

Thanks for you help. Now let me try that mp3tag software to check the functionality.
