I'm trying to add the column date.

I tried %date%

I get:

[ SYNTAX ERROR IN FORMATTING STRING ]

basically, there are 2 fields for time coordinates:
YEAR
RELEASETIME

%date% is not according to the MP3 standard.

In extended tags I have the following entry:

DATE 2603

How can I create a column to search all files that have an entry for DATE?

it is not necessary to have a column in the file list to filter for the presence of a certain field.
You can enter
%date% PRESENT
to see which of the loaded files has that field.
If you get a syntax error, you might have entered something like
date%
