MP3tag V3.28, Win11. What is the small round icon in the leftmost column? Does it serve a purpose, can I eliminate it?
I can't change it under Column Views, and I can't find any doc on it. I searched, but it's a tough subject to search on.
It shows the icon of the default application for that file type.
E.g.

You can change it if you change the default application.
Thanks. Makes sense. Any way to not display it?
I'm setting up a new laptop, I guess I never noticed it on the old one.
No. That's the way it is.
Got it, thanks. Appreciate the quick reply!
You could make a feature request for the ability to hide it. Since mp3tag exclusively (incorrect - thanks Ohrenkino) applies to audio files, and many users are likely to have a single application as the default for all audio file types, it's arguably superfluous.
On the other hand, it could show you that a particular filetype isn't currently associated with the default player, which could be useful for some.
MP3tag also handles MKV and MP4 video files.
This icon not only shows the associated player software (in my case VLC), but is also used for error reporting:

And even if most users associate the same software, you could, for example, use "VLC" for mp3 and FLAC files, "Media Player" for wma, and so on...
