I just purchased a Shoks OpenSwim headset and will only be using to listen to audiobooks I converted from CD's to MP3 format. Each book tags the filename differently.
I am also not familiar with tagging and that sort of stuff, hence me looking for some pointers.
Question: If I converted 12 cd's that contained a total of 120 tracks, how can I ensure I will be listening to them in order when I transfer to my OpenSwim headset?
All tracks will go in 1 folder for ease of use while swimming.
Sometimes, the track info cannot be found and each CD I convert to MP3 names the
the files to Track 01, Track 02, etc.
Can someone help me figure out the easiest way to get them to play in order when all are dumped into the same folder?
I do not care about the actual name of each filename or track, just not sure what tag value is used to play by default.
Thanks for any help you can give!

That depends on your player:
You can test it with just 3 tracks for example.
Rename it to
01 - Test Track
02 - DEF Track
03 - ABC Track
If your player play them according to the leading number, we can show you how to do that automatically for your 120 tracks.
If your player play them randomly, we need to find out what tag exactly your player needs for a correct sort order. For example a filled TRACK tag?
Just a basic thing: filenames are not tags. They are a property by the filesystem to address the files.
Players should rely on metadata, embedded in the files - these are the tags.
So: Load the files into MP3tag.
Make sure that they are in the correct order.
Select the files.
Press Ctrl-K to open the numbering wizard and let it set an ascending number from 1 to 120 into the field TRACK.
Go to the tag panel an the left.
Enter a data for the ALBUMARTIST, ARTIST, ALBUM and press Ctrl-S to save the changes.
With still the selected files, open Convert>Tag-Tag for TITLE
Enter as format string: %album% _ $num(%track%,3)
Click OK.
Let the converter fill the field TITLE.
Now rename the files:
Convert>Tag-Filename
Format string: %title%
See what your player does.
I tried what you did and initially, thought that was going to work as it initially played in that order. I tested the naming convention but changing the name but mixing up the actual chapter files I used for testing.
The name change had no effect. I tried multiple ways of changing things and even deleted all tags in the MP3tag s/w
It didn't help that I was working while I was messing around with the naming convention so may have missed some key changes?
I ended up trying what @ohrenkino suggested and that seems to have worked.
Thanks for helping!
This worked like a champ!
One thing I did when ripping the cd's was to place files from the cd's in their own folder. This helped me keep track of files in case they were all named the same (for each CD) I sorted Them by CD, then made sure the file names wee in order and followed the order of operations you suggested.
thanks for the help!
