Where are new tags saved?

The "X" is the second icon from the left in your third picture (just to the right of the disk icon (save)). It may not be red unless files are selected and highlighted.

p.s. it appears that many of your files have both ID3v1 and ID3v2. Won't hurt, but sometimes this can cause issues (edit one of them but not both and then get differences in tags). Modern players rarely ever need to see ID3v1 tags. In my own case, I deleted all the Id3v1 tags. Load up all the files, select all. click SAVE, then select all and click the X. This will follow the rules setup in your mp3 tag settings (read ID3v2.3, write Id3v2.3, remove all but Id3v2.3)

Once I selected a file the X did turn red (who knew). I set up Mp3tag as you suggest.

lots of help buttons on almost every screen of the program that take you to info. And key word searches of the forum typically turn up lots of good info.

Yes, I made my change in the tag panel (left panel, wright?) and my change was the track number only.

But to reiterate.... Did you SAVE after you made these changes? In Mp3tag's Tag Panel (on the left) you must save your changes for every file. In the column view on the right side it's not necessary. In the columns, when you make a change and move to a different column or file the changes are automatically saved. That isn't the case in the Tag Panel.

There should be a column labeled "Track" on the right side. You can also make changes to the track numbers within that column, and if you're changing several track numbers you'll find it much easier than using the Tag Panel.

I have a feeling that what you're actually looking at is the track number within the filename. If you want the filename to reflect the new track number then you're going to have to rewrite the filename after renumbering the tracks. Easiest way to do that is to use the 'Tag - Filename' converter .

Enter something like:

$num(%track%,2) %title%

Or, for multi-disc sets you may want:

%discnumber%-$num(%track%,2) %title%
