write both tags (ID3v2, APEv2)

#1

Hi, Is it possible to write both tags (ID3v2, APEv2) in a .mp3 file?
do you recommend this job?
also, why there is not any "songwriter" field?

#2

Yes, it is possible. In Tools > Options > Tags > Mpeg, under Write, you can check both ID3v2 and APEv2 and Mp3tag will write both.

Do I recommend writing both APE and ID3 tags? No. Not unless you have a specific application that requires it. It can be difficult to maintain and confusing for both yourself and some programs, as some will merge the data from different types of tags and some will give ID3 precedence over APE and some will do the opposite.

So which do you think is better? (ID3v2 or APEv2)
Which is more compatible with various applications and hardwares?

#4

ID3v2

#5

Thanks, can anyone explain to me about the "songwriter" and "arengment by" fields?
how can i add and edit this fields?

#6

You can have a look at the specification here: http://id3.org/id3v2.3.0
You will not find something like 'songwriter' or 'arrangement'.

What exactly do you mean with this two terms? Maybe 'Lyricist/Text writer'? Or 'Composer?
Maybe you find some similar description in the specification and then in Mp3tag?

#7

I'd just like to add these two fields to my .mp3 files
"arangment by" and "songwriter" are the important information about a song

You can add a user-defined tag.
Select the file, press Alt-T to open the extended tags dialogue.
Click the New-Button. Enter a fieldname e.g. "Arrangement by" or "Songwriter".
Enter the data.
Close all dialogues with OK.

Note: such user-defined fields are usually not displayed by players, so it could be a good idea to hijack another field like "publisher" or "composer" which are V2.3 standard fields so that the chance of being visible in a program is a little higher.
