[WS] Discogs (pone mod)

no I just uploaded the file into my profile and created scripts since I don't know much about programming to use the extended tags

But you followed my instructions in the starting post?

Before you create the script with the Discogs Pone>Create Scripts action, you have to select the Discogs Pone 4 Web Script Settings.mp3 file in Mp3tag.

how exactly do I do that?

Just follow the instructions from the starting post.
Load the Discogs Pone 4 Web Script Settings.mp3 file into Mp3tag (like you would do with a normal mp3 file).
To select the file, just click on it. It is selected when it is highlighted with in blue in Mp3tag. Do only select the settings file and no other file when you run the Discogs Pone>Create Scripts action.

For Example: If on discogs have 2x ZYX then I have field PUBLISHER = ZYX//ZYX , and when I start SPLIT ACTION I getting ONE field with value ZYX.
When on discogs have 2x 8350-8 then I have field CATALOG = 8350-8//8350-8 , and when I start SPLIT ACTION I getting TWO fields with value 8350-8.

That's interesting. In never noticed that, but you are right. When there are two identical values, the "split field by seperator" action behaves different in the PUBLISHER and in the CATALOG # field.

That has nothing to do with the discogs script. It's a feature of Mp3tag. I'm not sure if it is intentional or some kind of buggy behaviour.
But I find it rather usefull as it avoids double fields with the same value, while it still writes correct multivalue tag fields where the publisher is different. I just wonder than why CATALOG # doesn't behave the same way. Maybe because it's a custom field while PUBLISHER is a ID3 standard field. I don't know.

EDIT:
After some more tests it seems as if this behaviour is different with different file types.
The situation above is true for Flac and Ogg files.
At Mp3 files PUBLISHER can be splitted into two identical values.

Thanks for the response Pone, here's how I would like the info to appear.

Do you want the catalog# alone in the ALBUM tag field or do you want it in combination with the actual album title?
catalog# alone in the ALBUM tag field

Do you want the catalog# only in the ALBUM field or should it be there and in the CATALOG # field?
catalog# in the ALBUM tag field and the CATALOG # tag field

Same for the label, do you want it only in the COMMENT field or do you want it in the COMMENT field and the PUBLISHER field?
PUBLISHER alone in the COMMENT tag field and the PUBLISHER tag field

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

In the settings file at the OTHER FIELDS & OPTIONS section:

...
Album: >
...

  • dublicate fields: >CATALOG #=ALBUM<>PUBLISHER=COMMENT<
    ...

The setting above doesn't write the actual album name anywhere. You yould also write something like
Album: >ALBUM 2
to have the album name stored in a custom field. Maybe you decide someday that you would like to know the actual name of the album, then the information would be there, easy to move into another field with Mp3tag.

The syntax for the "dublicate fields:" line is ">source field 1=target field 1<" . You can do that with as many fields you like.

In the LABEL & SERIES section, in the lines after "if more than one label:", you can decide what to do if there are more than one Label and Label # (= Catalog #) at Discogs. Write ">yes" into one line and ">no" into the other two.
You can also choose different fields for the Series and Series # there.

I tried it and it works perfectly. Thanks so much for this Pone it's going to save me a lot of time when I'm tagging my files. I also took your advice and I'm writing the actual album name to an additional extended tag field.

This wonderful tag source has, sadly, abruptly stopped working for me.

"List of search results" lists the hits for the search I've made. When I pick a release from the list I get to the "Adjust tag information" window where none of the fields are populated. No nothing. Any ideas?

Same behaviour here.

It works for me. Is it still not working for you?
May discogs was down for a few hours. That happens sometimes.

Still no go :frowning:
It connects to Discogs, because it returns the list of albums: http://imgur.com/1oOoQ
But it doesn't show any tag data: http://imgur.com/423yL

Hm, I don't know where the problem could be. It works for me. Tried also the release from your screenshot.

The list of albums and the actual output is on different servers at discogs. So that would have been possible.

Did you change anything in the settings of your script?
Can you send me your settings file? So I can have a look at it. Maybe the problem depends on the settings.

Dear Pone, any news with your script? Have been using it for few years and it was the only one script I was using - AS IT IS SIMPLY THE BEST ONE! Is there any hope to see finished script? Or fix for error? I can't tag any file, since discogs gives me time only and no information about tracks. I use "DIRECT BY DISCOGS ID" option. Mp3Tag is V2.51.

I don't know where the problem is. My script is working. It's called "unfinished", but basically it's finished.

When did it stop working for you? Do you have the latest version of my script? If you have downloaded the lastest script, please send me your setting file, so I can have a look of it what causes the problem.

Hi Pone

I am sorry if I am reviving an old topic, but I just started using your script and registered to seek help regarding one small issue. While your script works like a charm for me, the problem is it keeps updating the title field with random values from the chosen album, sometimes with the album name itself. I generally use the (Album) Artist + Title option, is there a way to exclude the Title field from getting updated? I tried editing the settings mp3 file but couldn't figure out how.

Thanks in advance

The title fields are not random values. It are the values which are stored at the discogs release in the same order as they can be found there. If your tracks are in a different order, you can sort them per drag & drop to match with the discogs release.

You can also leave the TITLE tag field untouched:

  • open the settings mp3 file with Mp3tag, extended tags.
  • open the OTHER FIELDS & OPTIONS tag field
  • leave the second line empty after the ">" character, like this:
    Title: >

any chance of a finished release?

i know this is a volunteer project so i'm not demanding a new release or anything. it's just that i can't get myself to update the script settings. somehow, i have in the back of my mind that a finished release might change things once again so that i'd have to start over...

there is a chance, but it's very small.
i'm not haveing as much time now as I had the last few years. most probably the script will be as it is as long as it is working
