I am aware Mp3tag 2.27 can not correctly save Simple Chinese tag in APE files.
Winamp 5.08 will display mess characters.
On the other hand, Mp3tag will display proper Simple Chinese tag in APE files when I use Winamp 5.08 to edit and save Simple Chinese tag in APE files.
My APE files is compressed with Monkey 3.99F.

Mp3tag doesn't support Unicode.

I don't think that is the cause for the problem because Mp3tag can correctly save Simple Chinese tag in FLAC and MP3 files.
Also, Winamp can properly display the Simple Chinese tag in FLAC and MP3 files saved by Mp3tag.

you can download the two APE files at below two URLs. The two files suppose to have same Simple Chinese tag but Winamp will display mess characters with file call "Tag saved by Mp3tag.ape" and Mp3tag will correctly display two files Chinese tag. BTW, I can't use your upload service because it alway report page not found.

Can you please try to disable writing of ID3v1 Tags at Options, Tags, Ape... and try to tag the file "Tag saved by Winamp.ape" again?
