Add Cover album in Windows 11 / XP Issue

Hi everyone.

Since I found this sowftware my life became fantastic. I am a music lover and usually add tags by myself. So, firstly I wanted to thank to all the developers that made MP3tag.

Well I started using it in windows XP, until now, I have my old PC with XP beacuse I love it, more than 10 or 11 OS. But when I use MP3tag in 10 or 11 OS I realize that when I play songs on XP, cover was not saved/added, same when I play them on my phone. It can be seen as "smallart.jpg" hidden icon only. However when I use MPR Tag to save covers on XP, and then move mp3 file to 11 or 10 or phone to be played, all tags even cover are shown/saved with any problem.

It is frustrating beacuse I tried many times in 10 or 11, and when I move them to my main collection library in XP PC, I see there is no covers and I have to make all over again. Issue happens only with covers. Rest of tags are saved.

Could anyone help me please to know what the issue is?

Make sure that all files have embedded pictures.
Use a filter for that:
%_covers% MISSING
should present an empty file list.

Once all the files have embedded covers, use an action (quick?)
Export cover to file

Set as
Filename: folder
Do not export duplicates.
See what your XP player makes of it.

I did that. In WINDOWS 10 or 11, cover is saved, appears saved, even I can export it. But whan a copy mp3 file then to usb and move it to my XP PC. Cover does not appear.

You have to check if every folder has a file called folder.jpg.
Covers are not displayed file by file (AFAIK) but by folder.

You have not yet told us which program refuses to show the pictures.

Hi,

Thanks for reply. I thought it was going to take a while to receive support. Very appreciated.

I downloaded and then put them together in same folder, usually "download folder". I drag song directly from folder to MP3 TAG. Randoms songs, I mean, different artists, different albums, years, etc...

I play them on WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER for XP or 11 or on any app for android. The issue is that when I save cover on 11, they appear with no cover on XP MP3 TAG or windows player or any other software. But whan I do on XP, they appear with anny ussue on 11 softwares.

I just checked with files that where edited in W10 and the Xp Mediaplayer shows a cover for all files for which it finds a file folder.jpg in the folder.
You have to copy not only the music files but also the folder.jpg file if you want to see a picture in XP.
The behaviour of the Android player is something else.
If the suggested filter does not show any files (once you have loaded them all) then the covers are embedded and any failure to show them is a player problem.

Well, but that is exactly the issue. I embedd the covers and save it on MP3 TAG without the neccesity to add "also the folder.jpg file" on the folder, becuase I do not have to do that on XP never. I know that wha you suggest "makes" that cover appears on windows player but this is something that bother on 10 or 11 and on. But not on XP. I am not sut sure if you are aware about that.

Could you show a screenshot of the extended tags dialogue from a file for which you see the picture everywhere and another screenshot for a file that does not show the picture?

Yes I will. Unfortunatly I cannot do it today, even I can record a video. I am not sure if I can upload it here.

But thanks I lot I will make it tonight I hope. Whan I come back from work.

Greetings from Lima Peru.

When you get back home, please check also the settings in the Options Ctrl-OTags>Mpeg for all MP3tag installations in the various OS - are there any differences?

To my memory of the WMP in creates itself folder.jpgs 200x200 and gives them a hidden attribute so you cannot see them in the explorer unless you tell windows to also show hidden files.

Right now I am on my laptop windows 11, So far, I can do this:

1 - I download the picture from DISCOGS to my desktop.

2 - You can see it donwload on dekstop

3 - I select the mp3 file from a folder that has many song that I am working to add tags too (BTW songs hard to find on internet).

4 - I drag the mp3 file to MPR TAG, as you can see on screeshot

5 - Now I go to cover tab and righ click, "add cover".

6 - I search the file on desktop, same I downloaded it from discogs previously.

7 - Finally I save it and then I confirm dragging the mp3 file again and I see cover is still there.

The same steps I make on XP, but on XP cover keeps embed on mp3 file when I move it to other OS or phone.

I hope it works. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the description.
Did you know that if you use a web source script that you can set in the Utils button menu of the last dialogue to save the downloaded picture in the tag as well as in the file system?

I would still like to see the screenshots of the Options and the extended tags dialogues.

Another thing I usually do on XP with no problems, I drag the pic from website directly to MP3 TAG cover tab.

I mean, without save the pic on PC. On this case I download it just to show you the "tutorial" on how do I do it.

I know, but when you embed on XP it is not an issue, I mix a lot of songs in a same folder, all ot them with diffrent covers and no problem. But It become a mess on 11, I got your point. Only show 1 and same cover for all files in same folder.

Hello.

Here you have the screenshot. As you can see, pic looks embeed. But in fact when I move to XP system, it is not.

Anything I can do to solve this please?

I assume that you mean by the

the Windows XP Explorer - and that shows pictures for files only if there is a file called folder.jpg in a folder.
Check the folders where you see a picture in XP and make sure that the Windows XP explorer also shows hidden and system files.

Or the other way round: if you have a file in XP that behaves the way you want it, transfer it so a W11 system and compare this file with a new file, that, when tranferred to the XP system does not show the picture: where are the differences?

I mean this XP operation system:

Again, when I sue MP3 tag on XP, when I embeb covers, they are all right. When I move, to my laptop with WIN 11. Cover is still embed with all the rest of the tags.

However when I do it in 11, as I showed it on my friday post, they do not keep embeed when I move it to XP, Like if I never embedded the cover. But the no problem with rest of the tags.

Only happens with MP3 Tag.

For example if I download song from deezer, spotify, etc and it comes with the cover by default, no issues neither. covers keeps on the file even if a move ot to another device or system.

Have you checked with MP3tag on Windows XP a file that you tagged in W11?
