"Artist" data entered in mp3tag for wav files not porting to djay pro (algoriddim) (Windows)

Hi,

I’m manually entering tags in mp3Tag v. 3.32 (Win 11) to be ported into Algoriddim’s dJay Pro software (v. 5.52 for Windows).

Eveything is fine other than the data for the ARTIST field. It’s not showing up in dJay Pro. (The field displays as blank.) As an experiment, I also entered the Artist data in the CONTRIBUTING ARIST field, and that also does not display in dJay Pro’s ARTIST field.

I’ve duplicated this issue several times with several files. (All .wav files)

How can I make this work?

Thanks!

Try doing it the other way around.
Enter a value in "Algoriddims's djay Pro" into ARTIST and save it.

Then open the same track in Mp3tag, press Alt + T (View -> Extended Tags) and check how the field was named in your DJ-Software.
Use exactly the same field name for the next track in Mp3tag.

Hi,

Algoriddim’s dJay Pro does not contain the ability to enter tags, at least not on the Windows version. (They suggest using mp3Tag.) So while I appreciate the suggestion, it won’t work in this instance.

Any other ideas are greatly appreciated.

In my short test the fields entered in Mp3tag appears fine in "djay pro", with one exception: COMMENT

Tags entered in Mp3tag

Tags visible in the Windows version of the current version of "algoriddim djay pro"

I just found the problem with the COMMENT field, now visible in "djay pro" too:

In Mp3tag you have to set the Option -> Tags - Advanced from eng

to deu

if the language of your Windows 10/11 operating system - where you are running "djay pro" - is "German".

Thanks. I am not experiencing that issue with the COMMENT field. I enter that data in mp3Tag’s COMMENT field, and it displays properly in dJay Pro without issue.

Are you suggesting that I switch the Option -> Tags - Advanced from eng to deu to rectify the problem I’m having with the ARTIST tag?

This is only what happened with my German version of Windows 11.

In a second test, I did the same with a WAV file and you are right, "djay pro" does not seem to read the ARTIST and COMPOSER fields for WAV files:

Mp3tag fields in WAV file:

As we don't know what field names "djay pro" expects for WAV files, there is not much we can do in Mp3tag for this WAV file.

Perhaps you should ask on the Algoriddim forum how other "djay pro" users solved this issue?

@TheSilverStreak: Thank you for asking on the Algoriddim forum.

Please note that I am not the developer of Mp3tag – I am just a user like you.

After this comment in the other forum:

Anyway, I tried to reproduce this issue using Mp3tag 3.32 (64-bit) and Djay 5.5.2 on Windows 10. Tags written as RIFF (RIFF) and ID3v2.3 (RIFF ID3v2.3) are displayed correctly in Djay.

When I remove all tags (by right-clicking on a track and selecting “Remove tag”) and write new tags from scratch, they are saved as ID3v2.3 (RIFF ID3v2.3) and shown correctly in Djay.

I repeated my own tests. Whatever I try to change (different Mp3tag versions, 32bit and 64bit version, different WAV files, manually added fields or copy & pasted, removed and re-added) I don't get a working way to see the ARTIST and COMPOSER content for a WAV file in "djay pro" v5.5.2:

I even changed the Windows 11 OS language to ENG to see if it made a difference. Other then the column headers in djay pro appearing in English I don't see any content in ARTIST or COMPOSER.

The Windows File Explorer (not really a reference for this purpose, I know) shows the content of ARTIST - in the WFE column "Contributing Artist":

Don't get confused by the v322 value.
Initially, I tested with the mentioned OLD Mp3tag version v3.22 to see if it makes a difference. It does not.
I repeated my tests with the newest v3.33-beta-5 and still no difference - I just not changed the field content itself.

I can’t thank you enough for putting in so much time and effort on this matter!

I reported the problem to Algoriddim (djay Pro) and their tech said he could not duplicate the problem on his system. ( ! ). He said he would forward it to the developers.

FYI, I experimented using Serato to see if I was having the same issue. The answer is no. Serato properly ports the data from mp3Tag. I even edited the tags from within Serato (which is a convenient option that is lacking from djay Pro). They ported right back to mp3Tag - no issue.

As suspected, the problem seems to lie exclusively with djay Pro, at least within the DJ software apps that I use.

Thanks again for your time and help! I really appreciate it.

Do you have a single wav file that shows the ARTIST and COMMENT in your player?
If so, could you show us the extended tags dialogue of that file?

I use HEOS on Denon AVR with WAV files on SSD in USB slot. With WAV files ripped with USA Windows the metadata on the HEOS TV or iPad display is “Unknown”, also the Album list is “Unknown” basically it doesn’t work. But there’s a trick to fix.

Use mp3tag to fill the ‘Album Artist’ field on all tracks. You can often just copy the Artist field. Then it all works!

BTW even after this fix Windows won’t display ‘Album Artist’ details using File Explorer.

Footnote: Windows puts Recycle bin on portable SSD which must be cleared using ‘Cleanup’ after changes to stop duplicate music files.

THis trick probably won't work in this case as you can see in @LyricsLover 's post:

in which the field ALBUMARTIST is filled but the player still does not show the requested data.
For the record:

the field variable is called ALBUMARTIST in MP3tag.

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately, inputing data into mp3Tag and its ALBUMARTIST / “Album Artist” field still results in a blank field display in the ARTIST field in Djay Pro (Windows).

Tech support at Djay Pro (Algoriddim) states their team cannot duplicate my blank ARTIST field for WAV format files, yet several others in this forum experienced the same blank ARTIST field display that I encounter. Very frustrating.

It would be nice if that support could supply a file which works with their software.

I was flying a kite for the case mentioned Djay Pro. HEOS/Denon is able to read the metadata in WAV -provided AlbumArtist is filled. Many posts to www say WAV doesn’t support metadata and say you need to use FLAC - which is false. Thank you for mp3tag which I use to fill blanks and other information errors left by Windows auto rip of my CD collection.

Algoriddim (Djay Pro) support requested that I send them three WAV files that don’t display the ARTIST field. So I did. They claim those three files all worked fine for them. I asked them to send me a sample WAV file (other than the ones I sent them) that also works for them. It also did not work for me.
Please see that attached file.

Also, I have, three times, in the past two weeks, asked this question of their tech support, with no response to this question:

Can you please give me the exact language Djay Pro is looking for in the Extented Tag for the ARTIST field? (Extended Header, etc. - whatever field name Djay Pro is looking for to port the ARTIST field data from Mp3Tag to Djay Pro?

Support never responed to that question, but earlier today, one of their forum’s frequent posters said this to me:

I hope you get called out in both communities—here and on MP3tag—by the end of this thread. Just stop pushing and let developers do their jobs.

What would prompt such hostility remains a mystery to me. I’m just trying to get their software to work for me.

Have you tried with v5.6 of djay Pro?

Hi, Yes, I’ve tried it with v5.6 of djay Pro.

Before I entered the meta data in Mp3Tag, I entered the Cue Points (aka Hot Cues) in djay Pro. After I entered the meta data in Mp3Tag, I returned to djay Pro to see if the ARTIST content displayed. Unfortunately, it still does not, although other fields (COMMENT, GENRE, etc.) display properly. Also of note, after entering the meta data in Mp3Tag, my Cue Points in djay Pro have disappeared.

I also downloaded your test files from your topic on the Algoriddim forums, and while the Artists display correctly on the macOS version, they do not when I test on Windows using the latest v5.6. The same applies to the Composer field.

Windows:

I feel that we've reached a dead end here. If the developers of djay Pro can't reproduce the issue on their end (and they clearly tried, so it's not just a "claim" but something they can demonstrate), and they can't identify what might be triggering this discrepancy, then one simply has to wait or convert the files to another lossless format that doesn't have these problems, such as FLAC.
