Auto Numbering Wizard question for flac files

I have been using Auto Numbering Wizard to do my track and disk numbering.

track numbers are in the form 01/12 disc either 1/1 or 1/2 etc.

An issue I seen to have is if I make any changes using mp3tag to say album artwork or correcting a typo in the metadata I always have to re do the Auto Numbering Wizard.

Am I doing something wrong or is this the way its expected to work.

Using Window 10 PC..

Thanks

Steve

No that is not normal. Auto Number is manually initiated.

What files are we talking about? Mp3's?

Can you check for me under File - Options - Tags - Mpeg what options are set under Remove

Can you check your actions and maybe one of those removes TRACK

Thanks for responding..

problem is with FLAC.

The

“Can you check for me under File - Options - Tags - Mpeg what options are set under Remove”

Was just whatever was default..have not changed it. It has all 3 boxes ticked under the remove section.

Thanks.

I don't have FLAC around at the moment thus can't test, but it's definitely not normal that TRACK gets deleted. Did you check your actions?

Can your try this

Save the track / disc into the file and then check with Extended Tags what does it say. Do you see the TRACK / DISC listed there?

Found something, but maybe not relevant

It doesn’t get totally deleted just reverts back to track numbering like 1/15 instead of 01/15.

The autonumbering wizard writes the tracknumbers/discnumbers to the corresponding tag fields. Once they are written and you change another tag the files do not loose the content of these tag fields and there is no need to run the wizard again.

How do you make these changes? (Tag panel?, Web Source?)

If reverts that could mean that is something with Flac specific. Wait for @Florian or @ohrenkino to comment on this, as my knowledge is limited about this

If simply just use the tag panel to change a detail in say title or maybe improve the album artwork via using the PC file and apply a a new .jpg

Have you checked if the track numbers were really written with a leading zero when you first applied the wizard? Is "Leading zeros ..." checked in the wizard?

Are your files really flac-files? MP4-files for instance don't allow leading zeros, flac-files do.

I have my entire music folder on separate drives..multiple copies

FLAC Uncompressed

FLAC Level 5

ALAC

LAME

ALAC I no doesn’t support it and LAME seems to be ok with any change.

Although I have coped with this issue of having to redo the track numbering wizard its something if I can avoid it..it would be nice..

Then I ask myself sometimes..why do I do it in the first place ??

AFAIK FLAC has a separate field for TOTALTRACKS.
So the initial data from TRACK is split (by some other program?) into TRACK and TOTALTRACKS.
(Please check the extended tags dialogue Alt-T to confirm)
This is file format specific (like e.g. mp4 tags do not allow leading zeros).
In the tag panel you would have to add an object for TOTALTRACKS.
In the file list you can emulate the initial display with
Value: %track%[/%totaltracks%]

You can still use the numbering wizard. MP3tag then takes care to store the data in the format specific, correct fields.

Not sure I’ve explained my prob properly.. But to simplify I just reproduced using 1 album of a double album

I simply used mp3tag’s track number wizard to number the tracks 01/19 to 19/19 Discnumber was 1/2..saved it. I then opened the whole album in the windows file and changed the album front cover. Went back to mp3tag.. refreshed..and the track numbering changed back to 1 to 19 and the disc number was 1. (ie No longer 01/19 to 19/19 Disc number 1/2)

Not really involved with total tracks I don’t think but track total in Alt T was 19.

What is "in the windows file" and how did you changed the album front cover there?

What do you mean by that? Did you change the album front cover in another program then Mp3tag?

@LyricsLover Beat me to it

Simply highlighted all the tracks..right clicked went to properties..used choose album art from the internet..just chose another cover..hit apply..went back to mp3tag hit refresh.

its just the windows file from the hard drive not another “programme”

So are you using another program then Mp3tag to add the covers?

Because you say this

If a remove the cover in mp3tag and add the cover from the folder.jpg using just mp3tag the track numbering does stay in the correct form. trouble is that mp3tag does not let me scan the web for another cover like I can in the properties are the music file on the hard drive.

So do you consider the actual file on the hard drive as another program?

What about just drag and drop the picture from your web browser to your Mp3tag Tag Panel and the cover art placeholder (lower left corner)?
