My music library is already setup into Genre based folders. I’ve been building my library like this since 2002.
When I process tracks I manually sort the list by genre and move blocks of files to their respective folder using the move function.
This works and has been working well.
What I would like to do is create an action that will move files to their respective folders using the genre name as the criteria to move files to specific folders.
I would define the genre to match it’s corresponding folder path.
This would speed up moving files even more.
To clarify what @LyricsLover and I have suggested so far:
The converters are suitable to move files around and actions are also.
So which of the suggestions have you tried?
Besides using the genre for sorting your music into filders, are there any other tags you want to use for further subfolders or in the filename? You could use this as an example, which follows the documentation that has been suggested already.
D:\WhateverMusicFolder\%genre%\%albumartist%\%album%\%discnumber%-%track% %title%
Just a side note:
The above example would mix the ABBA Waterloo POP Vinyl-Album from 1974 with the CD from 1998 and the Digital Media-release from 2014.
If this is what the OP wants, it works well.
Otherwise, I would suggest adding the %year% after the \%album%\ and perhaps other existing tags to distinguish between different releases.
Agreed. There are so many variable to consider. It is up to the individual as to how this can be done.
My needs are simple for most of my genre folders. I let Serato DJ smart crates take care of sorting by year, etc.
This is just the folder structure I’m working with to speed things up.
