Hi
So I used a text csv file to upload the composer into the Composer field, and it shows on the tracks within mp3tag exactly as expected, but when I examine the files in any other software (MusicBee for example) the composer field is blank?
Am I missing something in the upload or using the wrong field? As far as I'm aware there is only one Composer field? (%composer%)
(Oh within the same csv file was genre as well, this uploaded exactly as expected and is visible in MusicBee, just in case the suggestion is the csv is wrong, etc.)
Cheers
Please press Alt + T on one of this updated tracks and take a screenshot.
Post this screenshot directly in your next answer.
Then we can (maybe) see if there is a typo or something else.
Do you use mp3 files or FLAC or another music format?
If the player doesn not show the data it looks like a player problem to me.
You could use your player and try to save data in the field in question and then see whether MP3tag can show this piece of information.
IN this case use also the extended tags as suggested by @LyricsLover to see the corresponding field name.
These are all mp3s.
Also to ohrenkino, the MusicBee composer field is working as expected in MusicBee and when I put a random entry in the conductor field (BANANANA) it shows in mpstag:
From
to
so, no problem any more?
Here is a thread to update the Musicbee cache - perhaps you have to do that to show updated data in Musicbee:

No, that's not what I said at all. When uploading to mp3tag the composer field is populated but not in MusicBee
If I upload into MusicBee manually (i.e. type) it appears in both.
I'm not sure why you would read my post and then assume I am saying its solved while still asking for help? I know how forums work...
Thank you for confirming that MP3tag shows everything the way it should be.
So now it would be up to you to find out how to coax Musicbee to read updated data.
I offered a link but I do not know whether that helps you with your player.
Are you mixing the use of the different COMPOSER and CONDUCTOR fields?
I have been using mp3tag for a very long time for all of my metadata management and music file organization. My two main players are iTunes and more recently MusicBee on a Win10 machine. Both fields work there as I expect. However if you make any changes outside of either player you have to force a library re-scan to capture the changes. If you have the mp3tag option set to not update the system "Modification Date" then these changes will not be captured.
So to clarify... I can update the conductor inb mp3tag and only see it mp3tag and you believe that is how it should be?
But the fact that I can update it in another piece of software and see it in both (showing that that piece of software is working exactly as you would expect it to) is evidence that MusicBee is at fault?
The link would be helpful if MusicBee was at fault but it's not. mp3tag is not updating the field correctly else it would be visible in other software.
I just checked in properties and in MediaMonkey, getting the exact same result! I update in there and it shows in mp3tag but if I update in mp3tag it doesn't show outside of mp3tag.
You are not being helpful onrenkino, you're weirdly trying to prove you're right about a problem I requested help on and it's just strange...
Definitely both show Conductor, I'm not sure where to look for Modifcation Date? Where do I find that?
MediMonkey and Musicbee both use a database AFAIK that needs updating to show modified data.
So far I have not heard that you have triggered that process.
For further tests I would suggest that you update a test file that your player does not know yet in MP3tag and then try to check in your player whether you see all the data that you expect.
So you're clearly not willing to engage sensibly by reading past comments.
I'll write it clearly for you.
mp3tag is updating the Conductor field, however this is not present or visible outside of mp3tag.
I have uploaded using a single csv file all the conductor and genre fields on 265 mp3 tracks.
All 265 tracks updated the genre successfully and these are visible outside of mp3tag.
All 265 tracks state that conductor field correctly within mp3tag but the conductor field is not completed outside of mp3tag. I have tested this now in three different softwares.
I don't know how else to be more direct and clear?
If you do not have a solution ohrenkino please don't respond, you are not helping at all.
You are not very co-operative.
As the next step would be to tell us: "if you (which is me in this case) do not believe then have a look for yourself" and then you would supply 2 files:
one that has been updated in Musicbee and one that MP3tag updated.
And then other folks could have a look if something is wrong with the file(s).
So I am looking forward to get such files.
I'm done with you ohrenkino
This is the first time I've used this forum to ask for help. You have been rude, condescending and arrogant throughout.
I have no idea why you are such an unpleasant person but I do not want your help, I do not want any more communications from you. Go help someone else (Hopefully you'll be kinder and nicer to them).
Did you check only the files with the imported data or did you update a test file and filled a new COMPOSER field?
Could you also show us how (with which function and which format string) you imported the data from the CSV field?
I suspect that a user-defined field has been created with e.g. an extra space at the end.
I am not engaging with you.
Please share your test mp3 file where the GENRE or COMPOSER or CONDUCTOR content will not be shown in MusicBee or MediaMonkey.
And please share another test mp3 file where you have set these contents in MusicBee or MediaMonkey.
The test files requested by @LyricsLover should be very interesting.
I can reproduce this problem when a field is misnamed, as suggested by Ohrenkino. Such errors are easy to overlook in CSV files since they may be invisible.
So skip your CSV input for now and verify and/or edit the Conductor tag name spelling in the Extended Tags dialog (Alt+T).
Then select a few mp3 files and use that dialog to manually save Conductor data to them. When I did this, the tag data appeared in other applications, even in Windows Explorer Properties:
And if the tag data appears in Windows Explorer, it should also upload properly to sites that support it (I did not test online).
Here is a list to select a field name with 2 COMPOSER fields
one is the standard field
the other one is a user-defined field name with a trailing space.
Such a field name could e.g. be created with field list like the following for the import
Well this is bit like +20 years ago, even since before then we have trim()
This would be a bug in the import tool, by my book.
