Sometimes my cover art disappears after I make and save changes in the Tag Panel to multiple files highlighted on the List.
It returns back after I delete the cover and paste it again. However, sometimes I delete the cover and a different cover appears. Is this preventable to show nothing in the Tag Panel when I delete the cover?
Please describe step-by-step what exactly you are doing.
Imagine how we try to reproduce these steps in our environment. We therefore need to know exactly what kind of files you are loading and how exactly you "make and save changes in the Tag Panel".
Example how I add the same cover for all tracks of a new album:
I load the entire album with mp3 files into Mp3tag
I select all tracks
I drag & drop the JPG cover from my Windows Explorer into the Tag Panel of Mp3tag to the Cover Art area in the lower left corner
I press Ctrl + S to save the visible cover art into all the selected tracks.
For what kind of music files you see the cover art disappearing?
How big is your cover art?
What picture type has your cover art?
I copy and paste Cover image from another source onto placeholder (1) or upload it from PC using the menus that appear when I right-click my mouse (2).
Sometimes I Remove cover and some other cover appear in place (3) but the menu shows none (as in the dimmed menus similar to the ones in screenshot 1). This happens in Explorer before I started using MP3Tag, but also happens here.
This is extremely problematic and a waste of time to add covers which are important for the recording.
Any ideas or solutions?
Also, I only use APE files if they're autmatically saved somewhere that I'm unaware of. I use Windows Media Player 11.2410.8.0 and 12.0.19041.5369.
If you have mark several files which don't have exactly the same cover you won't see any cover displayed. Instead you will see "Cover varies" next to the empty cover-place.
Please shot us a complete screenshot of such a problematic file of the extended tag-view (ALT-t).
You would still have to check the Options>Tags>Mpeg to see which tags you read and write. E.g. if you read APE but do not write them, then any update of the ID3V2 tags will be hidden by the APE tags.
Also, a check with a filter like
%_tag% HAS APE
would reveal such files.
Instead of an empty placeholder (1 in photo), a different Cover appears (3 in photo) after I Remove Cover (2 in photo) when more than one file is selected on the List (no snapshot). The replaced cover is usually the same for every cover I removed.
After the removal/replacement of covers I get the empty placeholder menu (3 in photo) after I right click with my mouse each file sperately on the placeholder in the Tag panel.
Could it be that you have set the option to display the first picture file from the folder?
If you now see a picturen, then the common property for "picture" is "none" - but you see the picture from the folder.
Check the display in MP3tag whether it say "picture varies" and tick the option Ctrl-O > Mpeg "Don't display first image from file directory as cover art".
A good way to find files without embedded cover is the filter
%_covers% MISSING
After a "Remove Cover" attempt this will be shown if the mentioned Tags option by @ohrenkino is not activated = cover from folder will be displayed.
(The picture file name in this example is PictureInFolder.jpg for demonstration purposes. Usually the cover file names are called folder.jpg or front.jpg)
Don’t display first image from file directory as cover art
Mp3tag can display the first image from the file’s directory as cover art in the Tag Panel if the file has no embedded cover art. You can restrict cover display to embedded cover art with this option.
