Creating a TAG panel field from text to numeric

I have created a TAG PANEL field called "DATE RELEASED" which is used to show the date an album was released. This field shows up in the COLUMNS and can also be exported to Excel using CSV. The problem I'm having is that the "DATE RELEASED" does not show up in folder view in Win 11 as I understand that this column in Win 11 is NUMERIC. How do I convert the field I've created to an NUMERIC field rather than a TEXT field, which I believe MP3Tag uses as "TYPE" when creating the fgield.

Are you sure that DATE RELEASED is an official, supported by Windows 11 File explorer field?

You could try to fill such a date in one of your example files in Windows 11 File Explorer first and then load this file in Mp3tag.
What tag name do you see in Mp3tag Extended View with the same content?

AFAIK you can not define the type of a field which you want to add.
The "Type" you can choose for a Tag panel field is only to display the content in the Tag Panel correctly. This does not define if the content will saved as "numeric" or "text".

The same is true for the Columns.
The “numeric” checkbox for Columns only determines whether the content is aligned to the right or left.

See this thread:

I do not think that the problem is that of being numeric or text but that it is a user-defined field. And the Windows Explorer does not support user-defined fields in general.

LYRICS LOVER: The "DATE RELEASED" field IS supported by Win 11 and can be found by right clicking on a blank column in FOLDER VIEW then choose the folder you want to enter the column, go to MORE>CHOOSE DETAILS and scrolling down to DATE RELEASED. Looking at MP3Tag, the column "TRACK" converts to "#" in folder view. I went to Windows 11 Forums and asked the same question and the answers I got were that the "DATE RELEASED" field is a NUMERIC field but it would have to be entered as MM-DD-YY or YY-MM-DD, you can even enter time, which in this case would really be overboard. All I'm looking for is YYYY, there really is no need to enter anything else. The objective of a "DATE RELEASED" fiels, though it be user defined, is to eliminate "COMMENT", as this is where I have been putting the REELEASE DATE. This column would help when doing a print-out as it would shorten then width of the print-out, should you decide to do so, plus you could put the column right next to the ALBUM NAME as not all ALBUMS are released at the time of the song is released. I guess I'm just picky.

I would think that your initial task is to find the corresponding field name in MP3tag instead of your user-defined field

which is just the label for the data and not the field name, is still open.

If you have a file in which you entered successfully a release date with the help of the WIndows explorer, then see if you find that data also in MP3tag.
See the extended tags dialogue after you have entered the data in that field

I have just tried that in a freshly installed Windows 11.
Even if it is true that you can select a column with the name "Date Released" ("Veröffentlichungsdatum" in German), I can not find a way to fill this field in Windows File Explorer.
I can not find it in the right-click properties of an MP3 to see or fill it.

So please - as @ohrenkino and I already asked you - show us this FILLED date in one of your MP3 in the Windows File Explorer or the Windows properties.

I think I have found a workaround for your problem in Mp3tag:
RELEASETIME

If you use the tag name
RELEASETIME
and enter something like
2024-10-31T23:45:12
in your MP3 file, you can SEE it in Windows 11 File Explorer like this:

You can still not change it or make it visible in the song properties in Windows File Explorer.

It is also possible to reduce the content yyyy-MM-ddTHH:mm:ss to your year yyyy only:
2024
and it will still be displayed in Windows File Explorer:

Please try it with RELEASETIME in Mp3tag.

Have you tried ORIGYEAR?

But I am pretty sure that this field will also not be displayed by the WIndows explorer.
So @xpac5896a : you would have to make a decision: do you want to stay with the windows explorer to manage your collection?
Then the following does not work:

  • user-defined fields,
  • RELEASETIME
  • ORIGYEAR
    and that attribute

is not interpreted for MP3 files.
If you want to keep the windows explorer, then you have to use a field that is supported by the windows explorer - apparently

Or you move to a decent tool that supports your favoured fields and perhaps even user-defined ones.
