Creating m3u playlist

I use generate playlists, managed to get each m3u file into individual folders.

the m3u files look ok populated with he correct tracks, but when i add them to my media player device it says the playlists are empty.

i changed the setting in options to %album%.m3u in filename of playlist, is this causing the issue….

in generate playlists i use %\_folderpath%%album%.m3u

and %_folderpath% which appear ok, playlists have always been perfect in the past….even playlists created using playlist all files and selected files doesnt work either

thank you

You can check the contents of a playlist with a plain text editor - as the playlists are plain text files.
The plain text editor should show you whether the playlist file is really empty.

sorry thought i said the playlist is populated and works fine, but never had an issue before with media player device……what are the default settings for the playlist options and playlist generator will try to see if that fixes it

thanks

Then I would take an old playlist that stil works and generate a new plalyist (with a different name) and see if that does not work and then compare both.

ok will do

have tried an old working m3u file and reinstalled mp3tag, and no change

If this is an accurate representation of the format string then it will not work as it is invalid syntax.
It should be
%_folderpath%\%album%.m3u

still no good…………………:joy:

In my opinion, %_folderpath% contains the trailing backslash. I've never had any problems with it.

Apparently, the file name sanitation removes 2 successive backslashes. But your are right, it is not necessary.
I was referring to the variable name which should be %_folderpath%

What has changed since

Nothing that I can tell, I have factory reset the G5 media player, no's going to try the SD card in my G1 player and see what happens

That's what's happening already

so it is a player problem?
MP3tag cannot guess what the requirements of the player are.
That is something that you have to investigate.

Hello

Yes it looks like it's an innioasis G5 problem, the G5 is a lot less reliable than the G1, am returning it for a refund.

Thank you

Wish I could find a reason for this behaviour, it's not mp3tag, I created an m3u file with VLC, sand problem….. hoped someone could think of a reason

The question is: does the player read m3u or m3u8 files at all?
I doubt that. Looking at the manual, it is only possible, to create playlists in the player but not externally.
Also, it would be a question what the player uses as syntax for the path if the playlists contain filenames with path components.

As for the player function: AFAI see it, the player already sorts files by Album - so in what respect would an album playlist be beneficial?

Yes the G1/G5 do accept m3u files for playlists, it's an option in Hilby app scan music and in the playlist page import m3u.

I write this to try and explain

I have an innioasis G1 and more recently also a G5 media player, previously I was able to do a music scan within the Hilby App which created perfect populated playlists on the G1/G5. I created the M3U files with MP3Tag, which were inserted in the relevant music folders.

Everything was fine. Then suddenly, when I did a music scan on the G1/G5 it created EMPTY playlists...I tried the option to `IMPORT` a playlist on the Playlist screen, although I was able to select the appropriate playlist, It still left the playlist empty, in fact if the playlist didn`t exist, it created an empty playlist, as with the music scan method. i then created a playlist M3U file using VLC media player, in the belief that the one created with mp3tag, had an issue, but the problem was the same. I then formatted the sd card with the G1/G5 in case the file system was wrong, again the problem persists. the only way to create useable playlists is from the `Album` screen by selecting the album and choosing create playlist. This works perfectly but doesn`t to my knowledge create an M3U file, it somehow creates a playlist internally without creating an M3U file.

so that`s how i`m now creating my playlists....I just don`t understand why the two methods of creating playlists, namely, music scan and import m3U file have stopped working.

any help / advice would be appreciated, I also tried 2 different SD cards, which obviously made no difference.

I think you have to look for advice at the device's support as it looks like a problem with a function of the player.

I have and am trying, although the issues are mainly with the Hilby app, as this manages the playlists.

Here is an m3u files created with mp3tag, would I need to adjust this to work on the G1/G5, within the music
