The windows version has this option, requesting it for the Mac version as well.
Still looking for this option to improve the workflow on the mac side.
I would like to raise this issue again. It’s needed when you’re trying to work with filters to move songs in genre specific groups.
Currently I have to use a filter to stop the root folder access from displaying all the sub-folders in the parent.
This is the current filter, %_folderpath% IS "/Volumes/Scratch Live/scratchlive_songs/Singles/"
This achieves a ‘disable recursive’ function but then I can’t search for genres.
We either need an option for the startup folder such as use filter …. for root folder or a dedicated disable recursive folders option in settings.
You can combine searches using the AND function.
%_folderpath% IS "/Volumes/Scratch Live/scratchlive_songs/Singles/" AND %genre% IS xxx
Hello Motley,
That’s my point, I don’t need to have a billion different filters for each genre.
If there is an option to disable recursive folder reading then I won’t need my initial filter and I can just type in the genre as normal.
This is my work flow on Windows with MP3Tag and it’s super fast.
You can save the filter with the most common genre you use. You can then simply change the genre whenever you want from there.
Once again, there is no need for me to have 10 different filters. My files download to one location. I edit the tags, etc then move them to their respective genre based folders.
On Windows it’s not a problem because the files in that folder are the only ones shown.
I can work in that folder without a filter and search only for what I need if I need to filter by genre vs just sorting by the column header.
The filter option for genres is not efficient for me because I deal with a lot of different genres.
I’m really trying to figure out a solution to help with how things in mp3tag for Mac currently works. But these conflicting statements about not using filters, but then using filters, but how filters are inefficient makes it difficult to follow what you really want to do. The filter is a powerful feature designed to simplify things.
You only need to save exactly one. If you want to change the genre kind you can simply replace that once you have this active in the filter box. This must be easier to do consistently for any number of files versus sorting by the column and doing it manually and visually. At least until some future point in time if or when what you have requested comes to life in the Mac version.
Mp3tag for Mac v1.10 adds an option to include or exclude subfolders when loading files, available directly in the Open Folder panel.
I believe it’s working correctly.
I have my startup folder set to Singles which is in a location. So after updating it was still reading folders recursively.
So what I did, is set the startup folder to none. Closed the program and relaunched.
Then I opened the Singles folder again and unchecked the include subfolders option.
This stops the folders from reading recursively. I went back into settings and set the Singles folder as the startup folder.
Shut down the application and relaunched. Now the Singles folder does not read folders recursively which is perfect.
My suggestion would be to add the includes subfolder option under the startup folders option is the settings menu.
This would make it easier to change the folder reading behaviour on startup.
Thank You Florian.
