Having tried Mp3Tag, MusicBrainz, MusicBee and others, I've got myself lost! I really want to use Mp3tag with AlbumArt Dowloader as a tool for doing this`
Let me explain what I'm trying to do. I have a ONE folder full of MP3's with no tag info. All files are named as artist then the track title. That's it. To be honest I'm not bothered in the album, track number etc, but if this is needed then so be it. What I really would like is to have the artist (or album) cover embed into the associated file, so this is displayed on any musicplayer I use. I seem to get so far with MusicBees, but when reloading into Mp3Tag to check, nothing is there. It really shouldn't be so hard to do. But I'm struggling! Honestly! Any help please. It's driving me nuts! Sorry if this question is not in the correct group.`
How did you check that the covers are not there and where did the other program store them?
In general: MP3tag can get the sam picture for several files if they belong to the same album.
Otherwise you have to treat each file individually.
In respect to accurateness: The album information would be vital to get the correct picture. Otherwise the track could come from the EP, album, live version, greatest hits, best of, charts compilation and so on.
You would have to find out what your player needs. There are numerous threads in the forum that deal with various players and their very specific needs to display pictures.
Here is a thread that guides you to use albumartdownloader as a tool in MP3tag:
Are you sure you want to see the same ARTIST cover for all your albums?
(It will be especially difficult to automatically find an actual artist's picture.)
Most sources will show you ALBUM covers.
First, you should decide what you want to see. Do you want to see the (same) ARTIST cover or the individual ALBUM cover?
Then it's also important to know for how much ALBUMs you want to search and save a matching cover.
For a few you could just drag & drop them from your internet source into Mp3tag and save them into your tracks.
If you have thousands and more ALBUMs the way @ohrenkino already mentioned is the more efficent one.
