MusicBrainz Picard tagged mp3 files

Running Mp3tag v3.27a on Windows 11. I can successfully tag ALBUMS within MP3tag using Tag Sources -> MusicBrainz and Tag Sources -> MusicBrainz extended. However, when I use MusicBrainz Picard OUTSIDE of MP3tag to 7000+ unclustered MP3 files (SINGLE songs), the tags (Album, track number,…) show up just fine in Windows Explorer as well as Tag&Rename. But when i view these same files in MP3tag none of the new tags appear. When I select View - extended tags I see REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_PEAK, etc but none of the MUSICBRAINZxxx extended tags. If I turn around and select a song from an album that I tagged INSIDE of Mp3tag I see all of the extended MusicBrainz extended tags (MUSICBRAINZ_ALBUMARTISTID,…)

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

It looks like you have APE tags in your files which, when read, have priority in being displayed in MP3tag.
See the Options Ctrl-O > Tags>Mpeg and switch off to read APE tags.
Reread the tags and see whether now the missing data is displayed.

I have Read ID3v1, APE and ID3v2 enabled and write ID3v1 APEv2 and ID3v2 enabled

PS If removing APExx tags once and for all solves the problem I'll do it but the last time i messed with remove APE in MP3tag I completely wrecked my MP3s somehow

Please switch off to read APE.

Problem solved, thanks.
Just made a $25 PayPal donation for that AMAZING quick response

Just a hint:
if you do not really need those replaygain tags, then undo the gain data.
If you want to use it, then look out for a program that writes the data to ID3 tags and not APE tags. And if it only writes to APE tags, then it should keep all the other fields in sync.
Not keeping the fields in sync is the root cause for this problem.

I use MP3gain, will that be affected by not reading APE tags?

No, not that I know of.
But looking at the problems with the tag data being different in the various tag versions, I would prefer either to have just ID3 tags or that all tags contain the same amount of information (as far as it is supported).
There are other programs that write gain data to ID3 tags and not only to APE tags.

I use dbPoweramp to calculate the Track and Album Replaygain values as well as iTunes normalization. It will write these to the id3 fields.

My process (10 years old now) has been:
(1) Exact Audio Copy
(a) rip separate WAV files (artist - album - year - track# - track title)
(b) single WAV + CUE sheet
(2) dbPoweramp for conversion of WAV to mp3
(3) mp3tag to get tags from filename
(4) mp3gain adjust to 89db

All in iTunes for iPod/iPhone sync of 25K songs.
I am in the process of getting off of iTunes and am evaluating:
MediaMonkey
MusicBee
AIMP
foobar 2000

I'm stuck in the iPhone ecosystem for now (just ordered a iPhone 16 Pro Max with 1TB) so syncing to iPhone is key discriminator but am very determined to finally dump iTunes once and for all. It's served me well for 10+ years but it's a bloated POS at this point...

Any advice/comments/criticism/suggestions are welcome...

One more case of what I encountered here. I still think the documentation could do a better job of explaining that there's a hierarchy in which the tag types are displayed (or not).

I don't use iTunes to sync music to my iPhone any longer. Sync tracks directly to the Folders app (I use Remote Desktop most of the time) and playback using BTR Amp, Foobar Mobile, or Neutron. No more iTunes or Apple a music for me.
