Hi. I’ve looked through similar posts but can’t find an exact match to any previous posts. It’s probably something really simple, so please forgive my inexperience, I’m very new to all this (didn’t even know what a Meta tag was until today!). So I added several new fields in ‘Tag Panel’ for my MP3 file, but none of these are showing up in Windows Media Player, when I click on ‘Properties’ in there. When I checked in Metadata2go - most of those fields ARE displaying but IRSC and UPC fields are nowhere to be found! What am I doing wrong? I need to submit my song to radio stations but can’t do so if some or most of the information is missing depending upon what they open it with! For reference I’m using Windows 11, MP3tag version: v3.31a
I see your screenshots using Windows Explorer. But this is always a poor method to confirm the existence of any fields.
What would be more helpful would be a screenshot of the Extended Tag window from within mp3tag. This will show all tag field values, and also the tag types. From there it will be easier to see exactly what tags have been added.
@athar Please press View -> Extended Tags on your music file "Athar Imam - It'll Pass" or press Alt + T. This shows exactly, what kind of fields are embedded in your music file.
View -> Extended Tags in Mp3tag will show such fields and its content.
Unfortunately, Windows File Explorer* is very limited in terms of metadata and only displays a few fields.
* Your screenshots are from "Windows File Explorer" not from "Windows Media Player", right?
Please show us how you defined the tag panel field or the file list column
And you would have to find out what the target program supports.
A look at the documentation may reveal which standard fields there are.
Thank you for that. I followed your advise and was able to view the extended tags. All the fields are showing.
The screenshots were from Windows File Explorer, which makes sense re: what you mention about it displaying only a few fields. Windows Media Player shows even less though, as per screenshot below.
The fields definitely exist within MP3tag, that’s confirmed. I guess I just need to be sure that all the fields will be seen by whoever opens the file. That’s my worry, as some explicitly mention they won’t even open it if certain information is not there.
I doubt that you can tell whether some information is there or is not without opening a file.
And if these adressees have programs that can tell them if certain information is present or not then they should see it if their program adheres to the corresponding standard.
If you have doubts, then let the testers produce a file with all the required data and check that in MP3tag with the extended tags dialogue and see which fields they actually filled.
Ok thank you, I will bear that in mind. Appreciate it.
