What do the pictures look like in MP3tag?
Without any further investigation, I would say that the player has a problem to get the scaling right.
You could reduce the size of the picture so that the player does not have to do any calculations.
Load the same song into Mp3tag.
Look at the lower left cover corner and see the picture type and size, something like in this example:
