Tool to delete tags and add them back

Hi, Florian (and members of this community),

Yesterday, I used the Verification tool in Foobar to check my music library, which detected tag problems in several albums:

Decoded with minor problems.
File contains ID3v2 garbage
Warning: Garbage at the end of file (ID3 tag?)

I opened one of those problematic albums on Mp3tag and I clicked on Save Tag, hoping that, while saving again the tags, it would fix potential problems, but Foobar still detected the same issues.

Later on, I tried a different approach: I deleted all the tags and then I tagged the album again. It did work, but it's really time consuming to type all the tags back.

So, my question is whether there's a tool to fix potential problems, and more specifically, a tool that removes all the tags and immediately and automatically puts them back.

Thank you for your help (we've interacted a few times on Twitter, but only today I decided to create this account here).

You can cut and paste more or less all the tags from all the files in 1 go - if you dare. The problem could be that if the PC stops working, then all the data that is only in the volatile memory will be lost.

Here are some links to other tools to check MP3 files:

Thank you for your message: I did know about MP3 Diags.

After your message, I had a look at the Extended Tags tool and I hadn't noticed that, in fact, you can select all your tags, copy them and, after deleting the tags, paste them back.

The only problem is that it only seems to work for tags which have the same value for all the tracks of your album. Otherwise, it doesn't do anything and the tag stays empty: for example, this behaviour affects to the Title tag.

Not, the procedure goes like this:
Load the files
Select a set of all of the files, depending on your adventurousness
Right-click on the selected files in the file list
Select "Cut tag" from the context menu
Let MP3tag do the cutting from all the selected files in 1 go
Right-click on the selected files in the file list
Select "Paste tag" from the context menu
This pastes the just previously cut tags back to the files.

The "tag" is a collection of tag fields. What you see in the "extended tags" dialgoue is the list of tag fields in all the selected files.

It worked really well: thanks!

You said I had to be adventurous, but if process itself is safe and doesn't change the contents or the format or encoding of the characters, then I'll proceed. My laptop shouldn't shut down out of the blue. I'll do it album by album just in case.

The process itself works safely.

A good idea is always to have backups somewhere.

OK then! Thanks for your help! You'll save me a lot of time.
