I’m sure there are a lot of possibilities with this new customisation but one of the first things I thought of was making it easy to switch between Tag Panel & Column configurations even at the same time. I setup some configurations recently but just don’t use them because they are buried in the menu and I just make do with the configuration I already have loaded. For my purposes I have setup 3.
Lite - minimal fields
Standard - Typical fields I like access to
Full - fields rarely used included
I find that I generally like to have Tag Panel items & their corresponding Columns available at the same time so changing one means having to change the other as well.
Your suggestion shows me that there are probably just as many use cases as there are users.
For me, e.g. the fields for UNSYNCEDLYRICS and COMMENT are muli-line fields in the tag panel and I never edit them in the files list.
The files list, on the other hand, shows some columns with technical information like the codec or the length which cannot be shown in the tag panel.
My comment is not intended to say anything against your suggestion.
There’s a lot of tags that are just-in-cases that I’d much prefer to see if they’re present in a file right in front of me and can edit straight away if need be. I’m still experimenting with ways to reduce it sensibly, more so that the cover art section doesn’t block so much usable space (would also be nice if could take up that space for bigger artwork ).
Columns is effectively the same thing. Not even going to bother with an image, all I’ll say is can’t in all fairness complain about how stupidly long my setup of Mp3tag takes to load.
…but having a quicker method of swapping configurations without having to Load configuration… every time would be far more convenient, even if all the configurations found in their settings folders were laid out in their right-click menus. This is from someone working with both video and audio files where the differences in tags used by each would benefit tailored configurations, broken down even further between formats like MKV and MP4 having similar yet specifically named tags.
To the actual point, having more functions available as a Toolbar/icon customisation is always an okay from me.
Something else I’d like to see in the Tag Panel, would be an indication of existing tags that are not shown in the tag panel. I currently use ALT+T to see what superficial (well, superficial for me) tags there are in any file(s).
Would be nice if there was an option in the tag panel to see a list of tags (or even just tag names with a check box next to them?) that are currently held in the file but are NOT shown in your personalised Tag Panel…
I'd like this too. Couple of days ago I made a similar suggestion to switch tag panels at View > Tag panel. But using the toolbar would work great too.
Another thing comes to mind. Currently Mp3tag saves the active tag panel in usrfields.ini. When you load another tag panel it takes over as the main tag panel, so when you configure it's saved to the same usrfields.ini. So you lose your previously active tag panel if you haven't made a separate backup of that one. I'd prefer if Mp3tag would save the tag panels separately to e.g. usrfields_1.ini and usrfields_2.ini so you could keep them separated and be able to switch between them without worrying about the backup.
A mixture of emoji’s and Unicode just typed/copy-pasted into the field name. It’ll vary between screen resolution/OS default fonts but I spent too long trying to get a good visual communication between it all.
… do not encourage me to request custom Tag Panel/Column icons.
I completely understand you, I know what you're talking about @arb
It takes me a lot of time, as I've already written, to program my icons in the custom Toolbar... Toolbar scaling: 125%, I've lost count of the hours...
